15 years in Prison?

Gypsy
By Gypsy

Hi Everyone,

Not sure if everyone here has been following this horrible case going on in Austria, about that father that locked up his daughter for 24 years and fathered 7 children off of her.(ick ick ick)

Well here's a link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7374965.stm

Anyway, today in the paper it was reported that if convicted he will get 15 years in prison. 15 years for locking up his daughter and 3 other children/grandchildren for 24 years, 15 years for raping his daughter since she was 11 and forcing her to give birth alone and in a dark celler 7 times!

I want to make one thing clear, I am not a believer in the death penalty, however I do believe in justice, and this is not justice. This man has killed his daughter, whether she still lives and breathes or not, her life, and the life of 3 of his other children/grandchildren is over. He should be locked up and the key thrown away. There should be no chance that he ever set foot outside of a prison again.

I think this kind of light sentencing highlights how rape, molestation, etc are STILL not considered real crimes. People who rob houses get longer in prison then this man.

What do you think?

Atrocious. Barbaric.... such words may not even be adequate to describe this man's despicable crimes.  He must be given consecutive sentence (as opposed to concurrent sentence) for each crime the prosecution establishes against this monster.  My heart goes out to his daughter and her children.

I just read this story. It is sick, the man is sick & I feel sick.

How can this happen? What is happening to us?

Punish the guy. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, is that not what the saying says???

I would like to salut u on this topic .. actually it's tearing up my heart when i read it .. and i can't even imagine that a man (which i don't like to call him as humanbeing) can do this thing for even a once .. and he did that for her for all this years ..

a lot of questions is roaming in my head ...

Is he having any heart inside of him?

havn't he seen his daughter suffering?

for 24 years he didn't feel regret for even one time?

I will not ask if he is SICK cuz he really is .. but haven't any body noticed any strange or weired attitude from this guy?

I mean his wife at least ..

I'm really confused ... between saying that this guy has to be tortured or killed AND/OR to be prisoned in Psychiatric clinic ...

will any of them work with him .. wut done is done?? the life of his daughter and her childs/grandchilds are over .. he destroyed them without having any mercy ..

I couldn't believe that the humanbeings became more brutal than animals ..

This is just too shocking and sad to read. I just can't imagine what that twisted man was thinking. I'm also against death penality, one because it would make us just as bad as he is, and second because I consider death the easy way out; this man should suffer just like he made his daughter and her children suffer for so many years.

I find his sentence completely absurd, hell she was locked up for more than 15 years and she didn't do anything wrong!!! He should undoubtly be locked up for life, I find his crime worse than killing someone because death is a blessing compared to having to live such a miserable life that he put them through.

On a side note, I was watching Oprah last night (one of the rare occassions that I do watch it) cause it was on an interesting topic about husbands raping their wives. Alot of people think that a husband can't rape his wife because they're married, he loves her, etc ; however, in all 50 states if anyone forces u into sex (hubby, bf, etc) it's considered as rape.  Wake up women!

Ok God.    What a sin.  I read in another paper that the government plans to move the children to another country in the hopes that they will eventually be able to live a normal life.  I can't believe that paper published a picture of the 14 year old though, that will make it harder for her to live annonymously some day.

The reason the three children who were taken away from their Mother raised by him and their Grandmother did not say anything is bacause they were infants.  Another horrendous thought is that the Mother having carried the children and given birth was then made to give up her babies.

I have cried tears over this.  The capability if a human being to be so perverted and evil is so far beyond my imagination.

I am against the death penalty for various reasons, but as a Mother with a daughter, if anyone even attempted to do to my daughter a fraction of what this evil person did to his, I would hunt them down to the end of the earth and beyond and tear them apart piece by piece until they were no more.

Apparently the Mother and children are suffering all sorts of mental, emotional and physical challenges...see this link:

so disappointed with the verdict! it should be death penalty! and such a quick trial? well i doubt if there are witnesses at all. whats wrong with Austria? do they have any protection against women and children?

i hope this man gets a mental torture...he will have flashbacks of what he done and it will make him so sorry everyday of his life...but does he have any conscience at all?

On this one. The only thing the death penelty acheives in cases like this is that the punishment is over quickly for the perpertrator yet the victim has to live with what was done to them for the rest of their lives.

Well if you actually look at countries with death penalites crimes like these are still committed.  The fact of the matter is if a person wants to kill someone or wants to do something like this, nothing will deter them.    The death penalty was in place in every country in the world for well over a 1000 years and horrendous crimes still occured.

Don't forget even in jails the inmates are watching TV and they will sort him out to make sure his life is not worth living, funily enough many inmates have no understanding for pedophiles and sex offenders.

I am sure they will not bring back the death penalty though, however, I think just this kind of thing is needed to scare people from committing such offences.

By Gypsy• 1 May 2008 10:20

Oh I know he won't live to get out in 15 years.  My outrage is that this is the maximum sentence for such a horredous crime.   It's a slap in the face to the victims.   What if he wasn't 73, what if he was 50?

He is already 73 for goodness sake, he will not survive in prison long, I don't believe they will be so lenient with him though. If and when he goes to jail his fellow prisoners are sure to be helpful is satisfying his needs.

Ya I have to question that too Canarybird.   I mean if it were me, I would wonder why my daughter seemed to have contact with my husband (enough to leave the kids with him) but not me.  But who knows, she could be a victim of abuse as well.

15 years is not enough, he should be given life and after life, because he eats his own flesh and blood. And made 3 other lives and killed them by locking them up, that is the true meaning of what he did. OMG!

I watched the news last night on ZDF the investigations are ongoing, seemingly the police are interviewing over 100 tennats and previous tennants for information.

They also showed videos of him on Holiday in Thailand getting a massage on the beach.

What I don't understand is did he have an accomplice?? How could he go on vacation and leave them in the cellar during that time unattended.

When he brought the first three kids from the cellar to his wife, why didn't they say anything - the whole story is very wierd.

By the way there was a case similar to this a few years ago and after endless year in captivity she managed to escape I think it was 11 years.

These are very queer people what goes on in their minds.

What use is this man to society? How will he ever be "rehabilitated"? It costs governments (i.e. taxpayers) millions of dollars, pounds, or whatever currency you care to mention, to keep people such as this filth locked up in prison.

While incarcerated, many liberal minded governments make sure that the sick bast*rd has 3 healthy meals a day, access to television and they will even, if he is of a mind to, allow him to study for a degree. If he is not happy, he can complain to the prision authorities and even take his case to the European Court of Human Rights.

15 years for what he did? What a sad reflection on western lawmakers and politicians; so concerned with political correctness that they will do nothing more than wring their hands and tell the victims that there is nothing further they can do.

Is this a right wing view? Yes, it is, and I see no shame in it. Murderers, rapists, terrorists - all should be despatched as swiftly as possible. We will execute a dog that bites, even though that dog has probably done nothing more than follow it's instinct to protect either it's territory or family. Yet we balk at doling out the same treatment to a human who, unlike the dog, actually has the capacity to realise that his actions have consequences.

Torturing the man is not an answer, he might be an animal, but we aren't.  Killing him is not the answer either, nobody has the right to take a life no matter what the reason.  Locking him up for a hell of a lot longer then 15 years is the only answer.

yes, this is the solution of some crazy ugly crimes like this.

Gypsy, such a crime can change your mind about the death penalty. it's some times the cure since some criminals will not respond to any rehabilitation programs. it's in their genes

Iphone999, the idea of this penalty is not only the criminal. yes he'll die and that's all. but it will be a good lesson for all the society. I can't believe if some one steal and lost his hand will repeat it and neither the viewers. right?

i cannot agree with death penalty cos the guy wont experiance anything after his deathmy personal openion is as we do in Saudi...cut his first Hand...after 3month second hand after 3months right leg and after 3 left leg...and once he lost all the hands and legs put him in Dark room till the end of his life...

by removing each and every part of his body one by one his life will be so much misrable and painfull he will realise and regret through out his life atleast till his death

I agree with you guys not enough i dont know anything about the law there but let's do the math he locked up her for 24 years so we have atleast have the same punishment. 2nd 7 kids that mean 7 more years.

then if it's up to me i'll choose the death penalty for sure or atleast if some one did that he shouldn't be in the street neve ever.
