Qatar invests big sum in 150 year old football club
Are you a footballer or a football fan? Then, here’s some news for you!
Qatar has recently invested a sum of 100,000 GBP, that is, about 550,000 QAR, in a small British club called Sheffield FC. The funds for the club came from Qatar’s 2022 World Cup organizing committee.
Though an amateur club, this club dates back to 1857 and is one of the oldest clubs in existence. But, it claims to have very basic amenities in comparison to biggies like FC Barcelona and Paris St. Germain.
The ground is basic and doesn’t have the facilities to host senior non-league football matches. The club also tried approaching crowd funding platform, Indiegogo, in order to raise GBP150,000 to help build a stadium.
After failed attempts to get financial support from the English Football Association and the Premier League, Qatar stepped in to show support to the 150 year old club.
Sources say that Qatar is committed to preserve, protect and promote the grassroots of football and so decided upon the investment.
What do you think about the idea??
The Qatari investment aside, which I'll adnmit I was unaware of, this article is factually incorrect and patronizing.
Sheffield FC is officially recognized as THE oldest football club not one of the oldest. It is nothing about 'claiming to have very basic amenities' it is a desire to return to their original ground 'Olive Grove' which requires re-developing.
As a football fan and native of Sheffield I know this without reference, however, some basic research on your part would have easily revealed this information.
Thanks Sana for this info ............. we are happy to know it .......................
