Qatar got Fifa 2022... Now it's time to learn how to pronounce Qatar :)

Its correct pronunciation is : Kah-Tr (similar to Cutter)

not Ka-tar (like guitar) ....

Got it? ;)

Kah-Tr and Katar are both ok. what isn't is when someone pronounced it as Gatar like the British Queen.

Not just the pronounciation, people even get the spelling wrong. Katar & Quater, Kuatar, are trending on Twitter.

To be fair enough with other bidders for 2022 WC, only Qatar (Kah-Tr) has a sincere passion to bring together players from countries with not-so-good diplomatic relations with them particularly Israel. I may hope that good diplomatic relations between Israel and other Arab countries may strengthen not just for football but to unite the whole region irregardless of religion, language and culture. Forever FRIENDSHIPS and PEACE among Arab counties I shall hope. Mabrook...more progress...Qatar.

I have heard soooooooo many different ways of pronouncing Qatar that I have to sometimes hold myself back from wincing. Among them:

Kay-Taar

Kayter

Qway-tar (some automatically add a "u" after "Q")

Cut-her...

But as old wisdom says: a rose by any other name is still a rose.

Mabrouk Qatar!

I know several Al-Thanis that pronounce it like it rhymes with guitar, as well as Qataris who pronounce it different ways. I don't think they really need us telling them how to pronounce their country, mate ;)
