FIFA delays Qatar 2022 WC decision

No decision will be made on moving Qatar's 2022 football World Cup to the winter before the end of next year's tournament in Brazil, the president of football's world governing body has said.

Sepp Blatter said on Twitter on Friday that FIFA and the executive committee of Qatar 2022 decided to launch a "consultation process among main stakeholders", and that no decision would be taken before next year.

FIFA has been considering moving the World Cup to winter after many supporter and football organisations said it would be impossible to play the tournament in the country's summer heat, which can reach 50C.

Qatar has also faced heavy criticism in foreign media about the deaths of migrant labourers working on its World Cup projects - allegedly averaging one a day - and the poor conditions many of them live in.

In another message on Twitter, Blatter said that FIFA could "not interfere with the labour rights of any country, but we cannot ignore them".

Blatter posted his comments after a meeting of the body's board.

What I cannot understand is that some very clever and intelligent guys running world football with all the required information infront of them made the wrong decision and keep on making wrong decisions to cover the original wrong decision

It seems to me that there is a lot of work to be done and of course commercial issues agreed. Remember the winter Olympics will be around the same time..

In addition Australia has already said that will want to be compensated for the costs of their bid - so Blatter is probably trying to bring them into line and get "someone else" to compensate them..

I don't understand Brit.

If the move to winter is a foregone conclusion why hasn't it been finalized?

I think Blatter is going to meet a very painful end...He is not aware of Arab temperaments..blackmails end in murders.....watch out buddy.

It only needs to be moved if the tournament is played in Qatar.

Announcing that they aren't planning to change the dates would seem to indicate that they are possibly planning to change the venue instead.

Its all getting rather tedious. Blatter has already made it clear that he wants a winter WC. Platini has also voiced agreement.

So, this constant lingering will have no bearing on the final decision.
