Qatar University College of Business and Economics (QU-CBE) is organizing the second Entrepreneurship in Economic Development forum on March 2-3 in collaboration with Qatar Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the Interactive Business Network (IBN).

The 2-day event themed "Fostering the New Generation of Entrepreneurs in Qatar and the Gulf" will be held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al-Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce.

Its aim is to inspire and boost entrepreneurship among the young generation in Qatar and other GCC countries, enabling them to develop individual initiatives to support economic development and prosperity in line with the goals expressed in Qatar National Vision.

It follows the success of the first forum held last year that attracted a host of business and finance leaders and industry experts and gave young prospective entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn about the ins-and-outs of planning, setting up and managing a business.

The event program will feature a series of panel discussions, workshops, and case studies presented by a group of experts from Qatar and visiting business leaders to provide insights on the latest concepts and practices shaping entrepreneurship, and advise attendees on how to apply them according to international best practice, as well as inspire and encourage their entrepreneurship aspirations after graduation. The case studies will look at success stories of prominent entrepreneurs in different business sectors around the world.

Topics will include developing entrepreneurial culture and skills in GCC countries; supporting entrepreneurs by creating a healthy eco-system; implanting a spirit of entrepreneurship in the younger generation, and equipping them with the skills and know-how to develop a knowledge-based economy and increase their contribution to the country's economic progress.

Dr Hindi said that the forum is an essential continuation of the university's academic role in equipping a new generation of business leaders with much-needed knowledge and skills, assisting them to enter the business world after graduation and become standard-bearers for Qatar at home and internationally.

"The Forum will enhance ongoing efforts by the College's Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Incubator to provide extra-curricular interactive educational activities that help students to expand their knowledge of the business sector and its dynamics", he added.

Dr Hindi stressed that the success of the 2014 launch edition of the Forum and the positive feedback underlined the importance of staging it annually. "We are pleased to have the generous support of H.E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al-Thani and his team in making this an important event in Qatar and the Gulf region," he said.

Mr Chehaib said that the success of the previous event paved the way for the 2015 edition that will study the latest developments in entrepreneurship trends globally. "Feedback and suggestions received from 2014 participants contributed to creating an advanced agenda that will ensure an equally successful repeat performance", he said.

He added: "The flourishing economy of Qatar, fuelled by the ambitious plans the country is working on in different economic sectors, creates a crucial need to host business events such as this. The Entrepreneurship in Economic Development Forum will enable business leaders to share insights and transfer their knowledge to the new generation and guide them through their passage to leadership and innovation".
