RAF collaborates with UNHCR to receive caravans for Syrian refugees
In collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) will receive this Friday the first batch of prefabricated housing units for Syrian refugees in Az-Zaatari camp who are affected by the snowstorm that hit the region recently.
A delegation from RAF Foundation headed by Dr. Ayed Bin Dabssan Al-Qahtani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Director General of the Foundation will head to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Friday morning to deliver the first batch of caravans for the Syrian refugees affected by the snowstorm.
The Qatari delegation includes Mr. Ali Yousef Al-Kuwari, Director of Marketing and Development of Financial Resources in RAF Foundation and Mr. Ahmed Yusuf Fakhro, Chairman of Goodwill Ambassadors Unit in RAF, who is also the supervisor of the Convoys of Love and Brotherhood which RAF Foundation is sending to the Syrian refugees in Jordan.
The delegation will also include a group of volunteers and people who are in solidarity with the Syrian refugees affected by the storm.
Mr. Ahmed Yusuf Fakhro said that the Foundation started few days ago to equip the first batch of prefabricated housing units through the factory with which the Foundation signed a contract through its office in the camp in Jordan.
RAF delegation will deliver tomorrow the first batch to those affected, and the delivery will continue at a rate of 20 to 30 caravans daily.
He pointed out that the caravans this time will be distinguished as they include a small kitchen and a bathroom. These caravans will be installed on a concrete base which the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will undertake to prepare in cooperation with RAF, and it will also prepare the sewerage system for these caravans.
By the same token, male and female Qatari benefactors and residents cooperated yesterday with the campaign "Change it with a Caravan".
The campaign was launched by RAF four days ago to provide prefabricated housing units for the Syrian refugees living in tents in Az-Zaatari camp who are greatly affected by the snowstorm.
The donations by benefactors for the campaign "Change it with a Caravan" reached nearly six million Riyals, which is enough for providing 600 caravans for Syrian refugee families living in tents at Az-Zaatari camp.
The cost of one caravan with all its amenities is QR 10,300 Riyals, while the cost of one caravan without amenities is QR 9,000.
RAF has expanded in regard to the ways of receiving donations from citizens and residents in the campaign "Change it with a Caravan", as one can donate by coming to the headquarters of the Foundation or with its collectors in Collection Centers in commercial complexes (malls) and other fixed points.
