Why so many family days in doha?

dhyun
By dhyun

Until now,I just get to doha for 8 months.Unfortunately,I could't go into City Centre three times because of a boring local custom-family day;Two times,I was prohibited to walk around the beautiful corniche due to family day.I am a single foreigner here, working in doha for some experience.Every day ,I live with work without any entertainment. This is quite a difference from my country.Worse still,Even in some friday,I usually visit a place I want.Doha is too strange to accept, any single man agree with me?
I sincerely hope this can be changed soon!

Qatari men are allowed in whenever they want, family day or not. Same with white people. That is obvious to anyone who is looking around. Please stop trying to justify this blatant racism as some legitimate rule.

If they want a "No Bachelors" day, fine. But stick to it. As is, they should change the sign to "No Single Asian Men Allowed". At least have the decency to honestly admit their racism.

azilana,no need to scream your head off dear...you're right, i did misunderstand & i apologize...& as for doing something,i already am,publicizing it would only defeat the purpose...as you correctly pointed out,QL is an open forum where we're all entitled to our opinions during the course of which a misunderstanding would occasionally occur,we're all human right?...as for biting you,my profuse gratitude at the offer but i think i'll pass...

As I said, I see guys going to City Centre around 8:30AM (BEFORE 10AM) and security guards lets them in. Since, these guys/bachelors have no other place to go, they stay in the food court, in the internet cafe (3rd level/WEST SIDE) or go elsewhere in the City Centre where they could sit and pass the day without bothering anyone.

insensitive & inhumane????...DUHHHH!!!!

HELLO!!!! these men you're ADVOCATING FOR are already in Doha as early as 7AM! While you on the other hand might still be snoring in your bed...on a FRIDAY.

YOU OBVIOUSLY MISUNDERSTOOD WHAT I MEANT....you're singling me out telling me to be compassionate to people LOWER than me?...I never consider any people below me coz I treat everyone the same as I wanted to be treated irregardless of nationality. You're the one who considered them in the "lower social scale"...NOT ME.

So PLEASE...don't go HIGH AND MIGHTY with me...coz if you're really THAT CONCERNED, DO SOMETHING instead of ranting here (can't stop you though, that's what QL is for) Coz some of those shunned are from your country...capisce???

BTW...you don't like my comment? SO? BITE ME

@ azilana, would you like it if someone told you to wake up @ the buttcrack of dawn on a friday so you can ride the bus from your ras laffan or mesaieed camp to city centre to buy your groceries before 10am so that "families can shop in peace"?...these people are literally building this country INCLUDING that city centre mall, yet they live a dog's life...that comment was both insensitive & inhumane...& if you're going to say you meant it as a joke because of the "hehehehe" you put @ the end of it,well nobody's laughing...a little sensitvity towards your fellow humans, however lower down they are from you on the social scale, wouldn't hurt...

That family day business. Breaks my heart to see the poor folks turned away on their only day off. That's some bass ackwards planning for ya right there, firstly because it is discriminatory to the bone, and secondly because there is an obvious loss of profit for the mall seeing as how an entire segment of society is deprived of ever spending their money there.

By azilana7037• 11 Aug 2009 22:22
azilana7037

So mostly, bachelors or the single men (laborers et al) comes in earlier than that so they could do their groceries. Carrefour opens around 8AM, you see.

So...come earlier than 10AM...hehehehe

True mmyke, but also for some people they grow up in a place where staring is the norm. Travels east of Qatar have highlighted this. People stare as a normal part of life...they stare at anything and everything. It doesnt' have to be out of the ordinary and it is not considered rude culturally.

My personal opinion is that if malls wish to have a family day then it should not be Friday as this is most bachelors day off. They work harder than most people. Let them enjoy their day off.

that I see many Western, Qatari and Arab bachelors entering the malls on Family Day. I'm really surprised you haven't.

stare here because they never see the female form,,,,if you never see a bosum, then you stare when first see one,,,, or a nice butt,,,if they did the staring would drop off to near zero very quickly,,,,

If you live in Vancouver, the best beach is "Wreck Cove",,,on a nice weekend day there are 8000 to 12000 people there and everyone is completely nude....after 20 minutes the nudity thing wears off and you can go up and order an ice cream cone,,, a burger, a beer and its completely normal....

If you make something wierd, then people respond,,,,its only natural.

Qatar makes its own problems just like everywhere else.

By leaders23• 11 Aug 2009 16:23

they created such a rule only because of some impolite and vulgur bachelors that goes there only for ladies and girls hunt. even if these ladies are with their husbands or families you can see bachelors playing smart and making some stupid moves....

By Stone Cold• 25 Jul 2009 12:53

Thats double standard. The whole objective is to have a certain day when familys should visit the mall, and not on any other days. Now that makes it sound odd. Its a big mall which can accomodate both Familys and Bachelors at any one time. Again the more people, the merrier. Its festival every day. Do you have other valid reasons for that?

By anonymous• 25 Jul 2009 12:46
anonymous

on a tangent here, but i think i have a valid point,The other GCC countries have an equally large single population esp. Dubai, why don't they face the same problems? very simple reason, the single men that go to malls here to stare/letch @ women do so because there is absolutely nothing else to do/nowhere else for them to go on a weekend after working hard all week. does anyone think that if they had a choice they'd still do it? hell no is the answer to that...this issue intrigued me enough to speak to some young, single guys last time i was in dubai & their answer was simple,:"we have 1 & 2 star hotels in Dubai with liquor lisences & having a few drinks there with friends suits our pocket & is a hell of a lot more fun than wasting time @ a mall staring @ women we can't be with & stuff we can't afford, there are shopping centres or lulus which cater to our needs & suit our budget & we go there when we need something,as for the women part of it,step out into the street, women are all over the place & available @ a price, who needs to go to a mall & stare for nothing when you can step out on the street, pick your nationality & negotiate your price?"...Now before jumping on my head,i'm not saying Doha vie with Dubai for whoring capital of the mideast honours but what the authorities can do is make an alternative for single people, weather in terms of giving liquor lisences to smaller hotels or dedicated shopping centres/malls whatever...The situation now is,"we want you to build our country but we're going to pretend you don't exist. if you don't exist, the question of looking after your needs doesn't arise does it?"...this whole family day buisiness is a bunch of crap,it's taking the easy way out...are single people any less human than married with kids couples??...@ qatarilady, the weekend is the same for married & single people,so asking people to "stick to that schedule" makes no sense @ all, what they need is an alternative, they come & stare 'cos this country doesn't provide them with an alternative, don't fault them for being human...

By anonymous• 25 Jul 2009 12:36

yeah, I think it would be better since expats with families here have their day off up to saturday.

anyway, no need to suggest it coz I think a lot of people already suggested it

By QatariLady• 25 Jul 2009 12:33
QatariLady

You can suggest on the mall's management to switch family days to saturdays.

By anonymous• 25 Jul 2009 12:30
anonymous

well then change the family day into some other day instead of friday coz I think the majority here are expats who have friday only as there rest day

By anonymous• 25 Jul 2009 12:26

nadt ...its not "no labourers day"...

Its no single male asians....Whether one is single married, polygamous makes no difference.....neither if he is a Doctor, Engineer, Lawyer, Businessman, Scientist, Nuclear physics, or even Gigolo.

If a asian has to go to "these malls" they have to bring along a female......duh.

Then there are a few creepy crawly kind of guys who prawl the mall just to brush against women.....then there are others who follow single women around.....but to stop a couple of certain race of people from entering the mall doesnt make much sense either.

By QatariLady• 25 Jul 2009 12:23

Security will not prevent the staring. It's disturbing.

By anonymous• 25 Jul 2009 12:21

they should put more security personnel instead than stop singles from entering the f=cking mall during fridays.

anyway, this topic had been discussed for so many times already and in Gods grace, I'm still not allowed to enter the mall because of this family day

By QatariLady• 25 Jul 2009 12:09

I know from my brothers and nephews that they're not allowed in except with females or children. One of my brothers though is allowed every time because he's in his 40s.

If the Emir rules this country then he is responsible for everything that happens in this country. So, with the consent of the Emir, certain people from certain races are discriminated. On the other hand, Qatar was awarded by the UN for "observing" the Human Rights. Got the joke?

By anonymous• 25 Jul 2009 11:56

They are from the CID and controlling that no Qatari males come in and smoke.

By anonymous• 25 Jul 2009 11:53

well I don't know that qatarlady, if western single men are allowed to go inside then how come single qatari men are not allowed, and they even smoke inside the mall

By QatariLady• 25 Jul 2009 11:50
QatariLady

When I go to malls I don't notice who is allowed in on family days and who is not. But I do know that single Qatari men aren't allowed in.

Please know when bachelors are allowed in and stick to that schedule.

Qlady, yes yes, rights are there for all in this case except the poor ASIAN bachelors.

do you also consider a western bachelor as woman like them?
