Sacrifice :-(
Old People Line Up To Clean Radiation in Japan
Talk about a sacrifice that will warm your heart. A group of older Japanese folks are asking for permission to clean up the contaminated nuclear power station in Fukushima.
More than 200 retirees are volunteering to take the place of young people who are exposing themselves to high levels of radiation. The group figures they have less than 20 years to live and will be dead before any radiation induced cancer develops. It's a different story for the young people who have battled in this war zone for three months and are at great risk for developing cancer as they grow older.
All that is stopping these pensioners from donning their radiation suits is the Japanese government which unfortunately is dragging its bureaucratic feet. [BBC]

hats off to them :)
LP,
That’s also traditionally the case in many aspects.
because women in their culture doesn't get the respect & value they bear, happened to see lots of japanese & korean movies which depicts their culture.
Nic, I am sure that you also know that the Japanese man's interest comes before the woman's interest.
LP,
In Japanese culture, the community’s interests, comes before the individual’s.
so whats in their mind, young ones wont die ever if they dont work as volunteers!!
Culture says a lot
determined people, they will come out of the catastrophe soon
I believe that you have hit the nail on the head. I would think that Koreans would act in a similar manner if needed..
I would do that for my children, brit, but not for the 'community'. Maybe because I am not Japanese.
You're right.. The greedy company did make a mistake and should be held accountable.
In this instance however, one can learn about having the courage to give up their life for the greater good of the community..
Learn what, brit? That you should sacrifice your life because a greedy company made mistakes knowingly?
Saw an interview with one of them a couple of days ago. Absolutely amazing.
we could all learn from them ..
