Rumor: QDC will stop issuing new permits?

Just read this last night:

http://qatarvisitor.blogspot.com/2010/02/no-new-alcohol-permits-at-qdc.html

It says there's a rumor that QDC will stop issuing new permits and may stop renewing existing ones.
Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Thanks for everyone's input!

No such thing.. went last evening at 7 PM had to wait for about 1/2 hour due to the line.. but got a new permit issued in a breeze.. only thing is they have tightened the procedure are short of staff.. so takes about 10 mins per person and there is only one counter open.

Just read - Good - tightening the regulations to plug up loopholes. Like a black market thingy going on, so like the pubs registration - a protectionist policy, although a hassle - but only go through it once - although some leeway should be allowed for guests of members - so the guests don't have to line up, take photo and pay? (I dunno, hardly ever go, but heard complaints). Orions has a good system in place - scan IDs only. Leeway for guests of members - so members will be held accountable for any misbehaviours of their guests..something like that.

Back to QDC - if everybody genuinely falling within the regulations will be allowed the alcohol permits, then it's not a restriction but a protection. At least the objective... the implementation is another thing.

"It could be a temporary move while the QDC tightens up the regulations - currently many lower salary members buy alcohol to sell on to non-permit members at vastly inflated prices.

It looked like there were people there yesterday getting permits and I didn't see any signs up saying they weren't.

Would seem a strange thing to do. No one is forcing people to get a liquor permit and if someone does sell it illegally they should be punished.

Everybody must go to the expensive hotel bars now. What a clever move.

I've spent days and nights to destroy the bloody alcohol, but they keep on importing it at a faster rate.

I hope they'll do. Alcohol is 'haram'. What a hypocrite country that is.

It sounds like a marketing strategy to boost sales and/or increase prices.
