Religion....Is it so important ?

the-birdie
By the-birdie

It is really nauseating to read the kind of religious discussions in this Forum. Everyone try to prove their own religion is the best and tarnishing the image of others.

Is it really important to be religious ? Why dont we assess a person on his/her personal qualties / humane touch--- rather than which relgion he/she belongs to?

How come the most of worst blood shed in the World happend to be in the name of Relgion ?

How come those religions, who claims to do the religious schooling , creates more criminals, who give a bad name to the relgion ?

As a social being, we have to be religious. If the religions make you morally strong, welcome. But we respect others too.

Just some stray thoughts .......

What was the religion of the "Spanish conquistador" calling for blood shedding and violence?

Are you referring to the Myth of the White Conquistador?

What was the topic of the debate?

The bloodiest wars on this planet where not in the name of RELIGION but between countries... for conquering and not getting conquered....

If one relates him self to the tag given by society so badly.... he shall do anything to keep himself convinced tht his tag is better than others' around...

A classical singer fights against the pop ones to keep his/her classical culture alive... in a silent way..but s/he definately does....

Same is true when it comes to religion.. Nation... Job... anything..

Most passionate debate I have ever participated in was Engineers vs Doctors.... We screwed the Docs big time..._

Sorry for interrupting and answering the main forum here -

Not only religion, anything we relate ourselves to, or tag ourselves with. Then eventually end up fighting for it. RELIGION, NATIONALITY, LANGUAGE, CONTINENT anything

zhyiella..

I don't disagree with..if someone does a good deed while having a bad intention then it is not good!

However, it is hard to know what someone's intention is because it is metaphysical (something you cannot see or measure).

We should base judgements on intention yes, but we should stick to deeds if that is how far we could see but in essence i agree with you.

My point is to say, if two persons, who have different beliefs to each other, do same action and have same intention, then they are just as good to humanity and religion is thier own personal business.

I hope this is clear now.

=====>>>CBD says: As humans in day to day activities, we should judge people PURELY based on thier deeds.

I dont think we should purely focus on the deeds itself but rather on the INTENTION.. maybe you see the MOVIE (John Q. (Denzel Washington).. IF you can see it, the deeds the he make is likely Bad.. but the Intention of saving his son for Heart surgery is what counts for.. so see firsts the Intention and not too conclusive/make judgment on the Deeds itself...

Whatever religion we have, we should Respect each and everyone......

I recommend that you try not to limit yourself to the "organized religions", but that you instead use your study of various religions to help inspire your own curiosity, and to then use your own senses of reasoning and intuition to guide you toward what seems to make the most sense to you.

You don't pick one, you find one or it finds you. It starts with WANTING to find the truth and then studying and research to check out if it is the truth. Then work at it, let it guide you and build you into a better someone. Something this important is worth every effort to get....if YOU want it.

religion is the virtue by which we gave to God the Honor and deeds which for Him alone given, as our Creator, Master and Supreme Lord.

then, religion is so much of importance.

If one man has a virtue, perhaps doesn't mean to God but on women around him.

If one man has a religion, perhaps doesn't have the virtue for honoring God but on earthly things that sorrounds him.

My opinion..As humans in day to day activities, we should judge people PURELY based on thier deeds.

Belief is personal choice and I believe and support that everyone has the right to believe in what makes him/her satisfied.

Religion to me is a system that regulates mylife so it is definitely good.

Religions have been misused by politicians to create wars, but religion in essence, don't cause wars!

It is good to discuss with people who have different belief to yours but in no way should jeopardise the coexistence between different beliefs.

Nice Forum!

most religious texts (bible, Qu'ran etc.) preach that you should respect other religions. This 'live and let live' attitude is fine.

The problem arises when people use religion as an excuse to hurt others - nothing to do with religious beliefs, they just want to hurt people. Same can be said with politics.

It's right that we should be judged based on what we are, religion should have nothing to do with it.

Religion "causes" those wars because either some ppl use it as an excuse for their greed or they use religion to manipulate with ppl (it's always been like the poorest are the most religious, Imohideen said it right).

But yes, it's important to believe in something and we call this something religion and gave our God a name. If we wouldn't believe in anything this world would be a very sad place.

But I will differ with Birdie on one issue - I am 100% religious

For a believers, it is very important, but being religious doesn't gave us the rights to disrespect and judge other religions. And this is what I noticed in most thread. A simple reminder thread that turned out to be a religion bashing by the so called wannabe mullah.

Take my advise dear, stay away from any religious topic :)
