One rape every 20 minutes in India.

NEW DELHI: The gang rape of the Mumbai photo journalist may have shaken the nation's conscience once again, but the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has an even more horrifying statistic to share—every 20 minutes, a woman is raped somewhere in India. Not only that: crimes against women have increased by 7.1% nationwide since 2010, and child rape cases have increased by 336% in the last 10 years. Times news 25 Aug.

Hello QLers .... It's difficult and confusing on whom to believe .... specially the figures of one incident for every 20 minutes !

I believe it .... without your knowledge ... your companions might have gestured them [ those 5 ] to join together and finish the task quickly ....

We need to clear this ....

The huge population gives huge tax to the economy.... and that is how the politicians get to steal billions out of the country and we get to develop missiles and nuclear reactor...

so dont blame the population...

the problem is with the law and order.

You still have not answered my question. Why are you here? Forget those people who are 'happy' in India...You do not actually qualified to represent the people who lives and work in India... You are among those many many indians who left their country to live and work in a wealthier country. So, why did you left?

I'm not going to pretend or be in denial so I'll answer your question:

My useless ex husband wanted spousal support. So I ran away to Qatar. I'm hoping the money they gave me here will allow me to hire the best lawyer not only to counter attack but to make sure he end up in jail.

Another sympathiser of India...wow... looks like a cupboard full of sympathisers who keep dropping every now and then and give incomprehensive solutions. Still India for sure is lucky to have so many well wishers across the globe.

This one however, just made me rofl..."Those Indians who migrated away from India stands a better chance getting enough opportunity to improve their life in general"...I would suggest that in addition to spending time in national area try to meet Indians who have had equivalent or better lifestyles even before moving out.

IMHO, it is not laws , politics ,population or economics that are the reason.

It is simply men and women.

Men need to be taught to respect women as equal. And women need to be taught that they ARE equal.

Both need to exercise respect and responsibility.

There will still be some rape, as there are men who are mentally ill and rape. But I think the rate will go down drastically.

Peoples in India are also enjoying their lives ....

Since you find good Indian population here, you are on the impression that India does have enough opportunity. You are wrong....I wanted to correct you on this point.

StaceyR, Who said peoples working in India are not enjoying their lives. There are enough opportunities...

And your findings on abortion rules is totally non-sense.

By StaceyR• 25 Aug 2013 11:47
StaceyR

At Boxbe: Speaking about politics..

If Ceausescu had allowed abortion in the first place, Romania wouldn't have to be so over-populated they had to impose strict & oppressive regime to control his people. His people will not revolt against him and he would have died of natural cause.

Maybe that's what India needs... Revolt against the government.

By StaceyR• 25 Aug 2013 11:34
StaceyR

I'm talking about India itself - there is just simply too many people in India for your government to keep in control.

Those Indians who migrated away from India stands a better chance getting enough opportunity to improve their life in general. Those big countries need people. India does not.

US of A couldnt control Snowden, Manning...the educated and well to do people...could they?

Same goes for the economy of the big names. Arent those economies, reeling under recession, looking up to India and China (on the strenght of their population) to come to their rescue. There was one country (forgetting the name) where the women went to pick clothes at discount or free if they come in just inner wear. Guess they couldnt be fed by their govt even if the population is nothing compared to India. You must have also watched photos of people in Europe in some country fighting for a loaf of bread. Again the population much less than India. What is the point in them having less population?

By StaceyR• 25 Aug 2013 10:52
StaceyR

What what good did it do to your country economic-ly?

What's the point of breaking world records if your local farmers can't even feed their own family? Fact is, you can't control your own people.

The money in Cricket...

Worlds biggest Movie Industry...

Worlds 2nd biggest workforce...

Is all because of its population...

Inspite of all this India still Export agriculture to the rest of the world...

even in a war with China the only comforting factor is man to man we are equal in number... although China is 3 times bigger...

Over population... that's the problem.

1. Educate women on the importance of family planning.

2. Encourage medical abortion.

3. Make martial art/self-defense as part of mandatory training for all school girls.

4. Bollywood is whack! Produce more movies of super-heroines. If women continues to be portrayed as damsel in distress - men will always see them as weaklings.

5. Public execution for convicted rapists might scares the rest of the others.

Baburao good question...

Better governance will definitely make a difference...

Today trying going to the Police Station with even any minor complaint... without the help of any social worker or local bigwig ... they will make you wait outside for hours together...

Can a poor person fight a case in Supereme court of India? He will not even be able to afford their fees...

So is the present Justice available to all Rich & Poor equally? No.

The police try their best not to register a complaint just to save their time. They will keep sending you to different jurisdiction... telling the scene of crime falls in xyz jurisdiction etc.

The photojournalist suffered grievous internal injuries.

"Bombay used to be the safest city... it is now becoming very scary, very bad," said Waheeda, 77.

"I think policing needs to be increased and they also need to be taught proper values and duties. Sometimes they are not fulfilling their duties," added the 77-year-old.

"I cannot believe that. Men are men. People are people. Outsiders, insiders do not make a difference. People are losing senses and their values. They are going crazy and mad," Waheeda said.

A 22-year-old photojournalist working for an English magazine was raped allegedly by five men in Mumbai's Shakti Mills compound. She was accompanied by a male colleague, who was brutally thrashed by the assailants.

Stating that "people are losing their values", legendary actress Waheeda Rehman suggested that the policemen be taught proper values to properly deal with rising incidents of crime against women.

She also slammed the theory that the influx of people of other states into Maharashtra is linked to the rise of such incidents.

The Police are there to take bribe not to Police... because they paid X amount he has to make it good, recover the amount, buy some property, have some money in the bank... where will it all come from?
