Iran bans foreign cooking shows
Iran's state-run television has been banned from screening cooking shows that promote foreign cuisine as conservatives seek to fight Western influence in the Iranian culture, media reported on Sunday.
"From now on teaching how to cook non-Iranian dishes is banned," deputy head of Iran's state broadcaster Ali Darabi was quoted as saying by Aftabnews, a moderate website, and several other media outlets.
Iran boasts a rich cuisine and cooking shows are very popular, with chefs teaching a variety of Iranian and foreign recipes on daytime television.
Italian, Chinese and Indian dishes are also favoured by many Iranians, while officials warn against the increasing consumption of unhealthy fast food.
Private broadcasters and satellite television are banned in Iran but rooftops are dotted with satellite dishes and dozens of Persian-language channels beam a daily dose of politics and entertainment into the country.
A Copy/Paste job.
The food is still yummy... we have a lot of QAWS events there:-)
My fave: Bangers and mash with peas followed by Banofee crumble.... hmmmm.... no wonder the Iranians wanna ban western food... it just sounds sinful;-P
Yes, that Garvey's. I did hear about the slight change in the liquid offerings, but is the food still good?

if they don't want cuisine that promote non-iranians then they might as well ban all fast food in that country like kfc and mcdonald's.
Edit
Do you mean *rap food lol
They must be taking after the french..
Garvey's? As in the Family Club?
yes its still open for meals and they have opened a fitness centre too.
However the liquid refreshment side is no longer:-(
maybe our subscription was censored.. :(
Fission chips - ha ha ha!!! :) Cabbage, does Garvey's still work? Have read about it since coming here - but many conflicting reports.
Woah, WK, that's not true - of Indian TV. When last I lived there, there were plenty of such shows and recipes. Well, if not plenty, a fair amount.
Especially after all the travel/lifestyle channels broke out.
it was sour :P
At the end of the day, it's their country and they are trying to protect their culture. What's the fuss. I can't remember watching any beef recipe being shown on Indian television or a pork recipe in Qatar.
How reliable is this 'sauce' :-/
the rumor is coming from a reliable source.
Probably they suspected that the cooking containers used to cook pork were shown on tv.
This will defile the viewers :-)
Perhaps they are worried cafes will be built next to one of it's nuclear power plants.
They could call it 'The Fission Chips'.
"Hi everyone, so today on Iranian Home Kitchen, we feature for the 18th time how to cook goat...today: The testicle! The last piece of meat we have left!"
What clowns!
Oryx - I guess that means restaurants that serve 'foreign' cuisine are also banned (if they ever existed)?
Sources say they are trying to come up with a way to ban wind coming in from the west.
they need the input of foreign cuisine
After two weeks in Iran, I wanted some variety. Yes Iranian food is good especially that sauce with walnuts and pomegranate....but variety is the spice of life!
I guess Gordon Ramsay won't be opening up there any day soon?
They have got to be the saddest clowns ever..seriously! I blame Nigella..lol!
they will banned any expat
what next?
