The Qatari Emir, H.H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, has reportedly survived an assassination attempt in Qatar's capital, Doha.

According to Egypt's al-Fajr newspaper, unknown gunmen attacked the Qatari Emir's motorcade near his palace on Monday.

The Egyptian newspaper said H.H Sheikh Hamad has reportedly been injured in the attack and was taken to hospital, adding that eight of the Emir's bodyguards were killed in the incident.

BTW Qatar may be/ or may not be easy to occupy,

Not easy to occupy because one side, they did a defense agreement with states, which keeping them on safe side,

and on another side its majority of armed force consist of expatriates, which can leave the job at anytime. there is no surety.. and maximum of them will surely be Muslim, so Muslims will never fight with Saudi Arabia easily.. So its easy for KSA then..

Well we will wait for the time, because sooner or later someone gonna attack them.. but currently more chances are from Iran, KSA not now,... May be when the time is near for WC2022 :)

By ingeniero• 29 Nov 2011 18:30

States care, because they need money, and they will never find more dumb... so they will care until they collect everything from here..

By anonymous• 29 Nov 2011 17:23
anonymous

why? Qatar is next door and easy to invade and occupy. You thinks that the States cares?? Assassinate the Emir, get you agents in Qatar to stir up trouble and then justify the invasion by saying you need to intervene for stability of the region. The same old tactics used by Western Colonial powers

By ingeniero• 29 Nov 2011 17:11
ingeniero

i googled it... and checked it.. because i didn't knew about this peak oil,

May be its a strategy of KSA at the moment to produce less, but i am not sure, its just my thinking,

but as a whole, KSA will be interested more in Venezuela, Kuwait, Libya then in Qatar.

btw the next person after the current ruler in Qatar is son of the ruler, so surely he will continue with same policies rather then changing, another thing Qatar have defense agreement with States, So Assassination of the current ruler is not giving any benefit to KSA. and KSA will think about Kuwait rather then Qatar.

No!

1. Despite assurances of 12.5 mbd of total capacity, the KSA has not yet produced more than 9 mbd on a sustained basis in 2011.

2. The IEA is begging the KSA to pump more.

3. The KSA has turned to outside companies to help it begin to unlock heavy oil reserves that will take a lot of time, energy, and money to prosecute.

the sum of which = PEAK OIL!!!!

look it up

depend upon the cases, like srilanka is also a island, Australia, Green Land etc.. but they have other ways of proper communication, plus some own resources, qatar don't have..

that's the capitalist world we live in - a dog eat dog world. Obedience is not the game here, its the acquisition of another country's resources - ie imperialism. Qaddafi would be laughing in his grave shouting what comes round goes round

Saudi Arabia is holding a large area, Qatar is just 0.53% of Saudi Arabia in terms of Area, So more area mean more chances of resources, minerals, Oil reservoirs,

Qatar need Saudi Arab badly, cuz this the only side through which Qatar is connected to the world by road, and it will be until the make the causeway to Bahrain, but still what? they will be just go to Bahrain, cuz Bahrain is in the same position as Qatar is.. or there another plan to connect to UAE via Causeway.. but again same situation.. and all there raw material for industries are coming from Saudi Arabia..

but Saudi Arab need just a good & Obedient neighbor, that's all...

By ingeniero• 28 Nov 2011 21:26
ingeniero

well situation here is little different, because the current Emir didn't came after a deadly revolution.. and other thing is that locals love him... i wasn't present at the time of his father, that we can compare them

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2011 21:22
anonymous

DROVERS- yes there are some parallels. The Saudis have lied about their oil reserves and have massively overstated how much they have left. They see Qataris as cretins and as easy meat to colonise and steal the gas reserves. Its no skin off the USA's nose if this happens as long as their interests are maintain or even enhanced.

i liked the part ...Sheikh Hamad has ruled the Persian Gulf state since 1995. He came to power after deposing his father in a palace coup and was crowned on June 2000.

sounds so much like the Thai King when he killed his brother to be king himself, strange how it works like that.

Crap rumour reported by only one newspaper in the world. We've all see the motorcade, and though possible, would be very hard to get to the Emir....let alone through what surely must be BULLET PROOF GLASS! I don't think there are many rulers....especially in the ME, who don't have bullet proof glass. Plus, try keeping something like this quiet in a city of this size....scaremongering from fantasists...oh, and really old news.

Britishwoman, Now its confusing.. from where i got the news, its a Iranian Paper, and you also heard it from another reliable source, and that was from libya, but Al Jazeera, CNN, BBC didn't say anything... nor anyone on QL..

I read the same story in a Libyan newspaper mid September, it stated the attempt happened on the 5th September after meeting with Russian representatives when the Emir was returning to his palace.

Miss Mimi, well the suicide i am talking about, happened in petrol pump. a person took petrol from Oil station and then burnt himself..

and what i am talking about is not rumors, because it destroy the image of a country.. and am not interested in destroying the good image of any country

Ingeniro, I suggest you look up the bombing at the Doha Players Theater in 2004. I assure it was well covered in the news. As for a suicide, there's suicides everyday in the labour camps, so one more suicide isn't a big deal unless he attempts it in an interesting way.

As for the murders, when, where, who did you here it from? Newspapers don't report rumours.

Brit, You don't trust on Link??

By ingeniero• 27 Nov 2011 15:56
ingeniero

Mimi, well i didn't saw many news...

i heard that some years back here a bomb blast happened in qatar, but i never saw any news, i heard that someone stole Gold worth 8 million Qatari Riyal from a market in doha, but i never saw in news, i saw one person who try to do suicide just near by my home, but i didn't heard that, Police found the dead body of a person in Sewage gutter, a dead body in Back filling material, etc etc...

so may be this is the same chain, and here the only media is Al Jazeera..

anyways I hope for good health of Emir, and wish him all the best...

but we have to agree, that this is control on media, and still called as Free Media without censorship...

By ingeniero• 27 Nov 2011 15:49

I know Qatar likes to block bad news, but covering up the deaths of 8 people and a gun attack in a populated area seems a bit difficult, even by Qatar standards.
