Yeah, I've seen all the benefits people are getting in India. That's prolly why I can't walk the street without being attacked by beggars - literally. I mean, these people have what they need, they're just greedy, so they decide to beg a little on the side.

And if you're suggesting that the money my parents (and millions of others) are sending to India, goes to a bank account, well..... I rest my case....

It's just a way to pull at the heartstrings....then pull at the purse strings.

The so called "oppressed/backward" castes get a lot of benefits from the government, especially in the education sector. Even jobs are reserved for them once they complete their studies.

India today is not the India that was 10-15 years ago. This is old propaganda rehashed. When people think it's going for charity, they automatically give money. which unfortunately it goes into "certain" bank accounts.

Gunner: The gold investment was just an example. All I'm saying is that no-one dares to speak up against India because it's too big a market. Had this same intolerant oppressive behavior been going in smaller, less "important" countries, Amnesty would've setup headquarters in the capital.

That's good to hear, Sandeep. Still, how can we read about a country that invest billions in gold and has so many rich people, but my parents are still sponsoring a couple of children's education in India - and they are middle class people that, paying 50% tax and don't have "loads of money". I still think it's a joke. But, I sincerely hope your optimism carries through to your homeland, Sandeep, 'cause it has the potential to be a great place.

Gunner: I don't just believe everything I read and see in TV. I've been to india too many time to not see reality for myself.

I agree they could have dealt with it better but things are much better now then what I used to see as a kid.

Be that as it may, Sandeep, I still don't see how the cast system is compatible with modern society. I think it's an oppressive system that belong in the stone age. But no-one cares, because there are too many "normal/good cast" Indian that are too important.

Actually cargodog this guy who is issuing these statements is a joke. You know these guys get a commission in terms of money for every conversion they carry out in India. It's his job to try and show that Dalits are still oppressed everywhere in India.

It may be old news, yet no-one cares to do anything about. Everyone and his dog still praises "Incredible India". It's a joke...!! Where are all the human rights activists??

I wonder what Custer would recommend; If he read, "200 million Indians" are facing starvation?

Gladly and unfortunately, 3000 USA INDIANS TOOK CARE of him and his 200 men.

Nothing new, they have been issuing these type of statements for a long long time to convert the dalits. Sometimes just a bit of money does the trick otherwise they make these statements to sound really sincere.
