Hello there!
I want to take my dog to Qatar. I will be living there for the next 3 years. But I read on the internet that there is a list of dogbreeds that are forbidden to import.
Does anybody know which breeds they mean by this list??
I can't find the list online.

Thanks a lot!

I have a Dogue De Bordeaux and she will be 7 y old (and that is old for this breed) in Febr.09.

We contacted pet relocators in Doha and they will arrange the paperwork. Hopefully everything will be fine.

Our dog moved from Romania to Holland, to China and Hong Kong and, currently, to the UK.

She has a PET Scheme passport and did Rabies blood test.

She will die in Doha (we stay here for 3 y), so we don't need to take her out of the country.

My next questioin is:

Are there walking groups in Doha?

Are there places where we can walk our dogs....some greenery?

She is used to walk for 2 hours a day without lead (normal here in UK).

Hope you can help us out.

Thankx for the answers!

Pugs are NO LONGER on the banned breed list but the others are. They were originally on the list as people were smuggling in bulldog puppies by saying they were pugs.

Please contact Qatar Pet Relocators for help on importing your pet. If your dog is one of the above mentioned breeds OR a mixed breed containing one of the banned breeds they will be able to advise you on the extra permission and paperwork required. They are able to gain special permission for banned breeds but there are certain conditions such as the dog MUST be neutered.

WOW, I checked the list and either whoever put the list together or......whoever does not know much about dogs. If you saw the movie Men in Black, the little dog is a Pug....what killlers....WOW.

I have owned Pugs my entire life, have 4 Champions and I can assure you they would never harm a soul.

You gotta be kidding me, obviously whoever posted the list of restricted dogs either does not know which dogs are restricted...they are:

Large breed dogs: Boxers, Rotteweilers, Great Danes, Dobermans.....

and surgely they know little about dogs, I mean a Pug, gees a Pug is like 20 pounds max and the worst a Pug would do is lick you silly....lol

yes, those are the breeds but if you have one of the mentioned above...it is still possible to get the dog into the country....I brought my pitball here, and the custom people said...sorry no buldogs allowed lol...well i told them she is definately not a buldog:) after a bit of chitchat they accepted her and also qatar relocators have permission to recieve one of those dangerous breeds into the country. It is possible.....Also I have heard that the rules are changing about taking the dogs back home....you can always find places that allow dogs....I have 3!!!!

This list was put on QL a while back. Not sure how accurate it is, but it seems to include the usual suspects;

American Staffordshire Terrier

Boerboel

Boston Terrier

Boxer

Bull Terrier

Bulldog

Chinese Shar-Pei

Doberman

Great Dane

Japanese Akita

Neapolitan Mastiff

Pug

Rottweiler

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Vets may be able to confirm. Try www.dohavets.com

You also need to make sure the apartment/villa/compound where you live is happy for you to have a dog. Not all of them are.

Also, I notice you're from the UK. Be aware that, as it currently stands, to take your dog back from Qatar to the UK will require it to go into 6 months quarantine. This is because Qatar is not part of the PETS scheme, though hopefully this will change.
