If you are not getting proper advise or treatment here take her to your country and can take injuction, now a days one doze is enough to kill the viruses (incase effected)Please ask the advise of any Vertrinary Doctor may be they can help you to give good advise.

You still haven't clarified - was your daughter bitten or not? Bites mean blood, torn skin. Was she bitten?

I do not believe any medical professional in this country would not treat a "bite" seriously especially if the animal is not a vaccinated one.

It's a simple question, did the interaction mean there was blood? Yes or no?

My friend was bitten by a dog. the wound was deep and went to Al Alhi hospital. She had to go to have the wound cleaned every day, had to report the dog bite to the authorities who gave her authorisation for Rabies vaccine at the Infectious disease clinic in Mamoura. The vaccine is 5 separate injections several weeks apart in the arm.

I think if your daughters lip was badly bitten the dr's would take all precautions.

If there is a wound keep it clean with an antiseptic like Betadine. If it is the saliva mixing - I would not worry - there are worse things that kids put in their mouths and survive.

Did you know a human bite carries more disease/bacteria than a dog bite!!

You should give the vaccine against rabies to your daughter. Consult some Private Clinics if Hamad does not have the vaccine.

Oups..... the "accident" accured when she kissed the dog?

Monitor her health condition by consult doctor and for the best solution to avoid same problem in next time, better you sell / hand over the dog to interested person.

Mandi - I think you're confusing my post with someone else's. I never said there was no rabies in the GCC - just that I'd never heard of anyone contracting it from a rabid animal.

The OP still hasn't clarified if his daughter was actually bitten or if the dog just licked her. If the former, then I don't understand why the doctors he has approached haven't taken it seriously, if the latter, I can understand why he was sent home.

Hamad doesn't have it? They normally do. Try the American Hospital instead. It's not just one injection though - it's a course of injectons given over a period of a year and all the hospitals here prescribe it AS A PRECAUTION.

I can bring the anti-Rabies for you from Egypt but not in 24hrs..you have to ask if it will still effecteve if more than two days or not, try al Ahly hospital, & its true that you have to watch the dog, if he is all right then no worries

watch the dog; if drinks water and is calm, then is OK, no problem! also if he eats usual food. take care just of usual infections for the bites.

if no, get asap an anti-rabic treatment.

marycatherine, there has been the occasional rabid fox in Oman. That country reports one or two cases of rabies per year.

There must be someone at Hamad Hospital or Al Ahli or Doha Clinic that can advise you about possible problems.

Did the dog bite her, break her skin and draw blood? Then yes, you are perfectly correct in seeking competent medical treatment. If the dog licked her (you mention saliva) - then you are worrying for nothing. Rabies and tetanus are spread by breaking the skin and causing your daughter to bleed.

In my 10 years in the GCC I've never heard of an animal infecting a person with rabies but better to be safe than sorry.

If the dog just licked her (no broken skin) - you have nothing to worry about. Is this the case?

Calm down. Dogs aren't venomous. I understand that there is no rabies in Qatar ( but I can't remember where I read that). Just monitor the wound to make sure it doesn't become infected. Really, don't panic.

It is quite surprising!!! No hospital has anti rabies? I am afraid you have to give it to her within 24 hours. Try Appolo, Al Rafa.

Try to consult here first, if not go to any other country for treatment because if the dog has Rabies so it may transfer to your daughter and it will affect her

Did you mean the dog bite your daughter? Is it a stray dog? If you know the dog well, nothing to worry. Rabies vaccine is necessary when the dog is strange and showing simptoms of Rabies. Hamad Medical can help you I guess. They can arrange the medicine from outside as well.
