My husband has recently accepted a job at Hamad. I will be coming with him and would really like to try to find a job on my own. I have contacted a few agencies who say they don't have anything right now. I would like to try to find something before we come so that I could have all paperwork and such together beforehand. Anyone know of any openings in an Operating Room. I have 13 years experience.

HI, I AM A FILIPINA NURSE WITH 2 YEARS EXPERIENCE..I AM INTERESTED TO WORK IN ASPETAR. I CAME HERE UNDER FAMILY VISIT VISA FOR 6 MOS. AND IS TRANSFERABLE. PLEASE HELP ME HAVE A JOB IN ASPETAR.THANK YOU.
I'm interested to know more about Aspetar- Ortho and Sports Med Hospital. I'm an RN from Singapore with 5 years of working experience in Ortho nursing and planning to specialize in Ortho later this year.
I would like to know the benefits of working at Aspetar. What's the pay like? Housing for single female? How accessible Aspetar is to employee/nursing housing, ammenities, transport?
I applied to a different clinics and hospital here in Doha but still no one call me; I'm under husband sponsorship I tried to apply in one of the new hospitals here in Doha but they told me that the hospital administrator is not accepting a nurse with husband sponsorship because if my husband resign @ their company, automatically I will be going home with him. I really want to have a job right now I'm getting bored staying home everyday. I hope somebody will help me to have a decent nursing job. Thanks.

Could any body suggest to get in Community speciality nursing jobs at present in qatar. Is there any agency recruiting from chennai for Hamad hospital/nursing jobs.
Can you advice i have a friend coming to Doha soon, and she's filling the medical license form ,please where would the form be sent and to whom would it be addressed to.
The people are losing their moral while becoming modern. The society needs to be attentive that moral values. Well things needs to be modernized but keeping intact with moral values.
i am registered nurse of the philippines currently working as a regular medical surgical nurse for almost 2 years now looking for a good working opportunity in qatar. i am now applying for a tourist visa and be able to look for a nursing job with good salary offer in qatar before my touriist visa expired. i am quite anxious about that, that i may not able to find one before it expires. My friend who is currently working there in qatar is helping me get my tourist visa.. but aside from that, like i said i worry how will i get a nursing job right away.
my dad works in Qatar, i'm an RN from the Philippines..can he sponsor me so I can Go i Qatar and if possible i want to work there..i hope someone can answes my query..thanks in advanace :)
Canucks_eh - I have contacted all the hospitals and they are not recruiting until Aug/Sept and the agencies tell me the same thing. I have also phoned and have been told this over the phone ...they said don't bother sending your CV until then
Hi Chinkay, are you in Qatar? What's the status of your job hunt? We are also in the process of preparing our move to Qatar and the lady in the house, also an RN, is a bit stressed about finding a job there...Any luck?...
Thanks for that email. Also, can anyone tell me how long I should expect to wait before hearing back from this hospital. I'm worried that DH will refuse a job in qatar because I don't have one. Would it be worth the job hunt while in qatar?
Please try sending your CV and cover letter to this, according to my friend, they are one of the best paying employer around, aside from oil companies....good luck
My husband has an interview with a company tomorrow and I'm doing some research and trying to get some info. I am a Canadian RN with 5 years ortho experience and have just completed a critical care program. What is the best way to apply to Aspetar? Do they have an ICU. Glad to hear you enjoy working there, it's nice to hear some positive info.
Hi, Nata, just wanted to thanks for the adviced u left on the 4/3/08 about don't take it personally, i just came across it after all this time, thanks again i will try ur suggestion......
Last year, dw has given up on nursing jobs in Doha. For non-Western educated nurses, the pay is so low (QR3000) that it isn't really worth it. (The money may be OK for a nurse who would earn even less at home.) Also, the experience is nothing. The duties of RNs in Doha are so simple (handing the doctor instruments or doing simple injections).
She went through so many hassles with Hamad Hospital, trying to get employment. She wasn't one of the nationalities which dominate the staff at Hamad so people stalled her and wouldn't give her appointments or schedule her to take this or that course. Her heart is broken from Hamad Hospital and she doesn't want to have anything to do with the nursing scene here.
Now that we both want to leave Qatar --> it is good timing.
I agree the original thread was about nurses salaries, so may be start a new thread Diana. I am sure the original person that started the thread is as frustrated as you are!
Hello Dianapilar, i was new too and did exactly what you did by posting my question in one of the forums and i never got any respond, so i changed my strategy and went under forums, then under opportunities then i selected post a new forum topic and jotted my question by that i did get good responds. I guess poeple look at the questions which draws them to answer the question, but for you your question is under the question i asked so you will not get enough responds only those people interested in the topic will be seeing it, which limits them answering or seeing the question. So i would encourage you to open a new forum with your question and i bet you will get good responds. I hope that helps and good luck in your search.
Don't take it personally this has happened to me many times, it could be that you are in the wrong thread, and people who my need your services are not looking here. Why don't you post on the family section, you may get a better response. I have read about many people looking for help with special needs kids. Do a search. Also try www.expatwomanqatar.com.
Well that's fine, but like i said i waited a few wks b4 adding this last post, so would have been really nice that someone could have said that, very simple, many thanks.
..i guess, not too many people on QL who is working with the mental disorder and challenging behaviour...LOL... that's why no response, Diana...sorry...
I don't mean to be rude but i was wondering why is that to the few querys i have made in this forum so far not a single reply, why is that? generally i can see that everyone one else get some kind of response or guide to where to go....i want to be able to make some friends but as no one even replies to me i was wondering what's the point....get my dissapoiment
Hi thereI am a Aussie nurse hopefully heading over to Qatar shortly - I have been advised by agencies here not to work at Hamad and the Ortho hospital just opened is not employing at the moment. Has your partner got a job yet. Thanks
My partner is about to arrive in Doha, is a well qualified Aussie RN and hoping to get a job at Aspetar (or anywhere else for that matter). I'm not sure how these forums usually work, but is there any way I could get your email or contact details so she can give you a call as she's quite tense / stressed about the whole idea of finding work here and I think it would be a great help if she could speak to another western nurse?
Actually, dw (darling wife) is looking for a fellow Asian nurse to help find a job. The only jobs in Doha for Asian nurses pay quite poorly (QR1000-3000/month) and is barely worth the agitation of driving there. But if there are better-paying jobs for Asian nursing jobs out there, please let us know.
Yes, I know I am Mad!!!! Ha ha just kidding. I am actually working as a Lactation Consultant now. Can't cope with the madness of delivery or postnatal in my old age!
I have been in Qatar for 6 months and I have had not much success in meeting on or offline other like minded western nurses/health professionals. There seem to be quite a few on this thread. I would love to be able to have a better 'chat', would some of you pm me to share experiences/frustrations/accomplishments. Thanks
thats nice to hear nata! I'm not sure when the official opening is! I'm suprised people actually find it as there isn't any signs to it and it doesn't look like a hospital! Well, its more like a hotel!
Hamad has one or two Western nurses or from Australia, however, they are in senior positions and are well paid + accomodation. Mostly the nurses come from the Philippines or Southern continent and yes locally employed people are paid peanuts.
New rules state that Qataris have now the priority for senior positions which means that highly paid positions covered by non-Qataris will finally be given to Qataris.
Siobhanhill I agree Aspetar is an exception. But they have put a halt on employing new staff. I was told that the hospital is not officially open yet - although my husband is a pt there! Also it is a specialist hosp. so quite limiting.
Actually the Gulf does attract western nurses, to hospitals with good packages that is ,thats why theres probably none (could be wrong) at the Hamad cos the pay is bad. Where I work they are all western nurses and I would say about 98% are not local hire
The vast majority of western nurses working here are here accompanying their husbands and then get a job as local hire just to keep a) busy b) keep their registration. Having said that most western nurses with University degrees get senior positions.
Princess Habibah...that is what dw (darling wife) has done. Instead of looking for a RN job paying virtually nothing, she's studying here to get a BSN.
Compared with what the hospitals were offering dw, QR9000 looks attractive. dw is Asian so the hospitals wanted to pay her QR2000 for the first three months. (BTW, don't shoot the messenger! I don't agree with this racism but it is part of the system!) After the first 3 months, they may be a small increase. That is ridiculous. Back in her home country, she could make much more than that. You may be wondering, then, why are we here? Because my salary is higher in the Middle East than in Asia.
Gosh how does the gulf attract any western nurses on a 9k QR salary
That is pitiful compared to what they make in the states or Canada.. Especially an RN!
I believe some of my family members gross about 80k a year at least!
On this salary.. it will be more like 30k dollars a year.. Not even worth getting out of bloody bed if your a nurse and have to do all that back breaking work and plus deal with beaurocracy.
In Hamad there are many foreign nurses employed and have they achieved a great deal. Contrary to many opions Hamad is improving and achieved JCI certification recently.
Being emlpoyed by Hamad takes time because of the visa and sponsorship compliances but if you are sponsored by your husband then you will not have any difficulty.
Doha Clinic is not the largest hospital in Doha Hamad is and Hamad also has many PHC centres .
If you are really interested I would advise you to go directly to any of the clinics or hospitals and get you information there.
Everyone has different experiences and a different viewpoint, however, if take a some of the advice from Ql member and some advice from the hospitals you should manage to form your own opion about working.
Hi, my name is Diana and i'm looking for a job supporting people with learning dissabilities, austism or challenging behaviour either in a hospital or privetly, i read that u will be happy to give some us some pointers about ur owns experiences, waiting 4 ur help, ta
Hi, i'm new here in Doha over a month so far n i'm looking for a job supporting people with learning dissabilities or mental health as i did back in the Uk for over 12 years, i had not joy so far so any advice will be welcome, ta.
Could try Aspetar, I have the great pleasure of working there and it's great ( thats not being sarcastic either). Full package is good, I'm sponsored by them and my husband is on my sponsor, PM me if you need anymore advice!
Alina, it's a jungle out there in trying to get a nursing job as a local hire. My Canadian colleague was offered QR9000/month by al-Alhi hospital (or Hamad). She's a RN from Canada but thought it wasn't worth it so she joined my company. Also, her duties were so limited and she felt the attitude to patient care was so lacking that she felt she didn't want to join there.
My dw (darling wife) is an RN and spent more than a year here wrestling with the government and hospitals. Hamad insisted she do their mandatory IRS course which took a few months just to sign-up to. There was a lot of "hallas hallas" stalling down at that government health office next to LuLu Centre. She eventually got certified to work here. Then, she worked for a few months at a plastic surgery clinic near The Mall (She has stories to tell of the kind of patients who came in!). At first, they let her remain under my sponsorship but then they insisted she goes under their sponsorship (so she quit). Now she has approached a bigger hospital (Doha Clinic Hospital) but they want her to complete the CGFNS test (she's a non-Western educated nurse and this is a credential-verification service).
As you can see, you need to spend some time researching the scene. Since you're a Canadian nurse (according to your profile), your salary WILL be higher and hospitals will be happier to hire you.
If you need help on government contacts to hire, please PM me.
Thanks Nata, but do you mean if am a western regardless of me being hired local or overseas, my pay will be according to my nationality? Will i also be able to get my own sponsership from the hospital or will they want me to have my husband's sponsership? Please help.
You can work as a nurse here, you will need to register with the NHA so bring original certificates, transcripts etc etc with you. If you get a job once you have arrived you will get no benefits as you will be local hire. Try and get a contract from home - not easy as most of the reqruitment is done in the Philipines and India.
What sort of nursing do you do? If you have orthopedic experience try Aspetar Hospital, a new orthopedic and sports injury hospital, they have a large proportion of western nurses, great working hours but I am not sure what the pay is like - this varies according to you nationality( I know it is crazy) and whether contraceted from Overseas or are local hire.
Thanks i tried to look at the site, but they often communicate in what i believe is their native language and little bit of english, makes it hard to follow.

How do I 'PM' you Siobhanhill?? I'd like some advice on this please and would love to get in touch with you?
Hey Sioghanhill

Thanks i tried to look at the site, but they often communicate in what i believe is their native language and little bit of english, makes it hard to follow.
not sure this will help ... but there is a nice lady call Apple on this board that might be able to help you.
She posted alot in
