Hope you don't mind my question, but can you tell me where you, based in the UK, found this position you have applied for?

For some time I have been interested in positions in Qatar or perhaps the UAE. It started when an agency put a position up on an Australian Web Site. Since then the whole thing has dragged on and despite words of encouragement by other Forum members and the agent I am more than sceptical about finding my way there.

I have found another useful web site, bayt.com but I have not had any feedback of any kind for a few positions I have applied for. Of course I may not be suited, perhaps they don't like Australians or even too old [ I don't think 46 is too ancient !]. I haven't found anywhere else to look.

I suspect, given the fact there seems to be a large expat community from the UK that there are agencies that may specialise in this area. Perhaps, if this is the case you might be happy to point me in their direction.

I have worked outside of Australia before [ UK ], lived in Canada [ Go Flames ] and travelled [ backbacked ] through Asia ,Middle East and Africa in younger days - so I am looking at the middle east from a "eyes wide open" perspective.

Would it be possible for someone to add Salam Towers to the map so it gives me an idea as to where I may be working along with details of local hotels, accommodation etc too. Just so I can work out the logistics etc. Much appreciated

All the above very true and I agree. However, your childrens ages are an issue. Coming here with young ones, as in 2,5,10 even is fine and great. But your childrens ages worry me. This is a rough place for teenagers, tough transition. I've seen more than a few families send there teenage child home due to scene. Think what you want... if you are considering your kids and want to know details, let me know and send your e-mail we'll discuss.

I've noticed other forum posters identifying that accommodation is sometimes provided by employees.

Supreme Council of Information Technology Qatar (ICT) are the employers.

Does anyone here either work for these people or know of anyone who does so I can establish more contacts accordingly?

It currently states: -

Offering a very highly negotiable TAX FREE salary as well

as an excellent benefits package. This includes accommodation,

transportation allowance, insurances, flights and several other benefits including family benefits if applicable. The total salary package including benefits will equate to circa £50k+ TAX FREE (Taxed equivalent package of £75k). All figures are negotiable.

I'm informed by someone that it is a great country to save money with my only costs being food and entertainment, which is, allegedly, very cheap.

From this I expect that medical etc will be inclusive but obviously will form part of my key negotiations.

Any additional areas I need to consider guys?

Key Word Negotiate:

Housing, utilities,travel and schooling included in your package.

Beware with the school fees and rent. You did not state what is including in your package? Will your employer paying school fees (3 kiddies is alot of $$$$ if you have to pay their school on your own).

And also medical and dentistry. It is quite costly if you have to pay on your own too.
