Job Offer from Qatar Foundation (QF)

By Nyert

Hi guys,

I've been reading this forum for about 3 weeks now since I was interviewed by a rep from (QF)here in the Philippines, which luckily I was able to pass, from then on I've started to think of the possibilities of moving there with my family, which is included in my package.

To cut the long story short, can someone from the group, if possible an employee of QF or someone who knows, give me some advise and current situation of the company.

I can say the package is undeniably good just want confirmation that the company hiring me is realy good a good company.

Also, are there nice flats or houses that will fit the 7k allowance they will give me and is near the qatar foundation premises. Is QF premises near to malls or any social areas?

Thank you in advance and hope to hear from the group.

I was hired by Qtel and I got a similar package. This site has been very helpful to me so I am just returning the favor.

In my one month stay in Doha (I arrived last Nov 30) here are a few things that I learned.

Salary - 5 digits is good, really good if your on the higher end of the scale, i.e., 50 to 99K. I thought I had the best offer in the world until I came to know how much others are receiving.

Housing allowance - your 7K is more than enough unless you live in a high end condo in Manila or you are one of those "conyo's". I got myself a decent place for 3.5K, fully independent part of villa with an open space outside for my son to play. I suggest you find yourself a room while waiting for your family, it will save you a lot. Check out QL classified ads. (est. 700 to 3K)

Transpo - It's hard to find taxis here, people hire private cars or what they call 'carlift' It's quite expensive, 15 to 30 riyals depending on where you're going. Now I am working on getting a driver's license which I heard is even harder than passing a professional board exam.

Supplementary allowance - not sure why it varies but I got mine fixed at 6,250. You can put this as part of your savings.

Furniture loan - Check with your HR if it is actually a loan. Mine is actually an amount given to me by Qtel that they will eventually write-off in 4 years time. That means when I leave the company e.g., in 2 years I have to pay half.

Family Sponsorship - I am not sure why you have to wait for six months, maybe QF policy but Qtel processed my family visa the moment I got my RP, if not for the holidays my family will be here already.

Round trip ticket - I came to know only recently, Qtel gives employees a peak season rate ticket per family member, you buy or you don't if you choose. I am not sure if QF will spend time booking your own flight back home.

Weather - by far this is the hottest and coldest place I've been to. I was here in September for my final interview and it's extremely hot, I landed 9PM it's 34C. Now it's freezing cold, maybe 6 to 12C.

I was contacted by an agency here in manila, I think they've got my CV in their database and found me qualified for the position through workabroad.ph

The HR on QF came over and interview me for a day, that's were I already receive the good news.

Tell your friend to browse workabroad.ph frequent, he or she might find the lucky pot there.

I am also considering a role in Qatar with a similar organisation and am single. On top of the accomodation, flights and transport etc allowances that Nyert mentioned, what is a normal monthly salary for a Western expat in an executive / management role - 10 years experience? I've seen some figures around QAR 15k / month and others up to QAR35k. Some expat teachers seem to be getting QAR12-15k is that right? Are salaries really tightly managed within grading bands? Do organisations often increase salary through negotiation? Many thanks for any insights.

No one is impervious to homesickness. Internet will do the trick. You can chat with your family as long as you have the time. Just psyche yourself why you're coming over here. Focus on that as if it were your 'lighthouse'. Goodluck and we'll see you around when you're here in Doha!

i think you're too lucky to have been offered with the job. and the salary with the allowance is really good. may i ask how did you apply for the position? or any contact or email i can have? my friend plans to go here & work also. TIA!

Guys, you just dont know how much this comments of yours is helping me decide if I should grab it or not. I know my only problem is home sickness plus the fact that I should wait for 6 months before my family will follow me. But I know I can bare with it. I hope there are things to do that will help me get over it. Im willing to share flats just to save enough money.

Going back to the package actualy, the package will include a free education for my daughter and upcoming baby reimburseable to QF. Round trip ticket every year for the whole family 37 days paid leave. Then retirement benefit for every year accomplished.

Guys, can you help me assess if the package is enough for me to leave a decent life in qatar in a per month basis?

Salary - 5 Digits

House allowance - 7k

Supplementary house allowance - 3.5k (varies depending on the market status)

Furniture loan - 40k (payable in 4 years)

Transpo - 1.2k

Utilities - 500

What else is missing?

Thank you guys again for the reply this will help especially for first timers like me.

I dont think so that it will enough with family. Ask for Children Schooling allowance, utility bills, etc. Here the inflation rate is above 14% and things are too costly. QF is a good employer, I am also hired by them but in an American university. So in my view it not that much enough salary with family. Did they offer housing? One thing more, ask about Medical allowance as well.

You're one of the lucky few to get employed by QF. With all due respect Withnail, we are a flexible lot. It's in our culture.

A)QRs.7K housing allowance will be sufficient for a decent flat just by being creative. You can share a flat from a fellow countryman, which a lot of 'em do. They cohabit peacefully and happily. Not unless your family consists of a dozen heads. But, sorry to say though, the current situation will not get you a decent flat all by yourselves for 7K, near or far, from QF. For sharing? Maybe you'll get a flat with a view. And if you can be creative a little more and splice this amount, you can even use a portion of it to buy a brand new car which is a necessity here. Really. :)

B) QF is one of the good employers here. You'll be part of an Institution who's thrust is education, and if that's your passion then you should thank your lucky stars!

C) QF is not walking distance to a mall. Hence again, a car would be a must. Besides, taxis are quiet difficult to get. Buses? That's an option. See and decide when you're here.

D) Unless you're an Inuit the winter cold here would not pose a problem. But the cold here is erratic. It sometimes dip lower than 10 deg.. Better bring some winter clothing. Clothing is a bit expensive here. This will last until Feb.

So, welcome to Doha where Landcruiser is as common as the jeepney back home!! Hope you and your family have a nice stay here! :)

hi,

7000 QAR is not much if you have a family living with you. QF has it's own compounds which are very close to work but they are full. they are renting apartments in other buildings around the city so you might try seeing if they can provide you with an apartment instead of an allowance.

QF treats its people well, but if you are a go getter, or someone who likes to improve things and make things better, it will be challenging. QF needs people like that but there are many people currently working there who are not like that. if you don't get frustrated easily then it would probably be good.

QF is huge so the more important question for you is whether the manager/team you are working for is good.

good luck.
