QF on a path to empower Future Female Athletes
Qatar Foundation (QF) has launched the 'Creating Pathways Programme, a new initiative aimed at nurturing sporting talent among girls aged 12-16. Announced on Saturday in partnership with Olympic Gold Medalist and Ambassador Sifan Hassan, the programme's first focus will be on track and field.
As part of QF's FIFA World Cup Legacy, this programme is led by Olympic Medalist Elizabeth McColgn, Director of Athletics at QF's CEO Office. The Women's Track and Field Programme, now underway, is the first of five elite sports pathways to be introduced. Initially focusing on Qatari girls, the programme will eventually expand into after-school and community sports initiatives, promoting physical activity and overall well-being for young women.
Hassan, praised for wearing the hijab while receiving her marathon gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics, shared her personal story at the launch, saying "Running helped me conquer fear, and I want to inspire young girls in Qatar to believe in themselves"
McColgan emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming environment t for female athletes, stating "Healthy body, healthy mind is at the core of this programme, designed to encourage women and girls in sports"
Aligned with the Qatar Olympic Commitee's development strategy, this programme is a precursor to the creation of QF's Women's Sports Academy, launching in 2026-2027. The academy will focus on national team development, using Education City Stadium as its central hub for women's sports.
