Qatar Museums has announced a vibrant lineup of activities and events for July, featuring summer camps, arts and crafts workshops, museum tours, storytelling sessions, and a Family Day.

If you are someone who enjoys learning about history and indulges in team activities, then one of these programs is for you. You can read on to learn about some of the programmes on offer.

NATIONAL MUSEUM OF QATAR
Summer Camp: Wealth of Qatar

Date: July 1 to 3

Time: 9am to 12pm

Open to: Children aged 8 to 10

The workshop is a collaborative art project inspired by Qatar’s culture. Participants will learn about traditional Qatari beliefs, culture, and pearl diving, and then work together to create a large-scale mural that reflects their collective understanding and interpretation of Qatari culture.

Workshop: Design for Games

Date: July 7 and 9

Time: 10am to 1pm

Open to: Children aged 11 to 18

The two-day workshop promises to teach participants the secrets of digital design and the magic behind bringing your game concept to life. No prior experience is needed. The workshop is free, but only limited slots are available.

Tour: AI Centre Open Door

Date: July 11

Time: 10am to 1pm

Ignite your imagination while exploring the National Museum of Qatar’s projects, or work on your own in the computer lab. Explore the AI Centre’s achievements of past participants, spark your creativity, and register for future events. While free to attend, registration is required.

Workshop: Chatbot

Date: July 18 and 25

Time: 10am to 1pm

Open to: Children aged 12 to 18

Want to design and build your own chatbots? This workshop will teach you the basics using Botpress, with hands-on activities and fun challenges. There will be two sessions — For children aged 12 to 15 (July 18) and for those aged 15 to 18 (July 25). The workshop is free, but slots are limited.

Summer Camp: Artefacts Workshop

Date: July 8

Time: 10.30am to 12pm

Open to: Children

What happens to objects discovered after a dig? Help archaeologists sort pottery according to its shape, size, material, color, and wear patterns and discover what the objects are used for. The workshop is free, but slots are limited. Participants should bring a filled, reusable water bottle.

Summer Camp: Artefacts Workshop

Date: July 10

Time: 4pm to 5.30pm

Open to: Adults

Learn about different types of artifacts and eco facts, and help archaeologists sort pottery according to their typology. Participants will learn how to draw and interpret pottery from archaeological excavations in Qatar, and how this knowledge is used to learn more about people who lived in this country. The workshop is free, but slots are limited. Please bring a filled, reusable water bottle.

MATHAF: ARAB MUSEUM OF MODERN ART 
Beyond the Frame: Youth Animation Workshop

Dates: July 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13

Time: 3pm to 5pm

The workshop provides a hands-on introduction to techniques involved in creating stop-motion animated films. Participants will engage in theoretical discussions, practical exercises, and screenings of short stop-motion animated films to gain a deeper appreciation of storytelling and animation.

Workshop: Let’s Make Books & Stories

Dates: July 15 and 17

Time: 4pm to 6pm

This programme combines stories and handcrafted arts, where children perform a set of interconnected activities (Eg: writing a story, making a book cover, learning about the artistic atmosphere of Mathaf).

 

MUSEUM OF ISLAMIC ART
Story Time at MIA Library

Date: July 1

Time: 11am to 12pm

Open to: Young children

Bring your children along to this story time session of The Good Dinosaur at the Museum of Islamic Art. Come and join in this family bonding story session. The session is free to attend, but prior registration is required. You can also email [email protected].

Workshop: An Artist’s Adventure

Date: July 6

Time: 11am to 12.30pm

Open to: Children aged 5 to 7

This will be an introductory workshop for children covering everything about the world of art. The workshop will begin with a story time focused on the world of art. Together, the workshop lead and young participants will explore this creative, colourful world, followed by an activity.

Throughout the activity, participating children will be able to explore different craft mediums to expand on the things they learned during story time, fortifying their knowledge of the art world. The workshop, which will be led by Kaltham Al Thani, will be free to attend, but registration is needed. Registrations close four days before the start date.

Family Day Activity: Wood

Date: July 13

Time: 3pm to 5pm

Open to: Families

The monthly Family Day will take place at the MIA Atrium. For July’s Family Day, family members can learn more about the uses and types of wood. It is free to attend and no registration is required.

Workshop: Watercolour Painting

Date: July 20

Time: 12pm to 2.30pm

Water colour painting may be hard to master, but with the right techniques, you can learn how to create beautiful art works. In this workshop, you will learn how to paint with water colours through wet and dry painting techniques. The workshop will be led by Noor Qussini.

Registration closes four days before start date.

Workshop: Creative Work by Arabic Calligraphy

Date: July 24

Time: 4pm to 6pm

This is a workshop that is inspired by the Arabic calligraphy that resides in MIA galleries. Explore the beauty of calligraphy by making your fine art piece. You can choose a text from the Museum collections and write it on glossy ornament paper. The workshop will provide the required materials. It will be led by Hussein Ammar Ahmad. While free to attend, registration is required and will close four days prior to the start date.

DADU, CHILDRENS MUSEUM OF QATAR
Summer Camp: Explore Health, Wellness, and the Environment

Dates: June 30, July 1 and 2

Time: 9am to 12pm

Open to: Children aged 8 to 11

Location: 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum

Help your children thrive in an engaging and interactive environment at this year’s summer camp. At the Dadu Camp, an extraordinary experience will seamlessly blend learning with fun, all while nurturing your child’s cultural awareness and heritage. The Summer Camp will take place in the seventh-floor conference room at the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum.
