Qatar, India elevate ties to ‘strategic relationship,’ signs MoUs

Qatar and India formally signed an agreement on Tuesday to elevate their ties to ‘strategic partnership’ and exchanged several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to boost trade, energy, investments, innovation, technology, food security, and culture.
The agreement to establish a strategic partnership between the two countries was held in the presence of HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
The two countries also signed a revised agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion concerning taxes on income.
HH The Amir also met Indian president Droupadi Murmi.
Qatar and India inked two key MoUs, in the presence of Sheikh Tamim and India’s Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, marking a new phase in the countries’ long-standing partnership.
The MoUs were signed between the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) and between Invest India and Invest Qatar.
Energy trade to new age technologies
Goyal welcomed the growing energy trade with Qatar while noting the goal was to transition to new-age technologies forming the bulwark of trade.
He said the two nations had elevated their Joint Working Group on trade to the ministerial level.
“Qatar will bring to the table what it can do best, and India will contribute similarly,” he said.
Invitation to Qatari companies
Companies from Qatar have also been invited to be a part of India’s growth story, through investments in manufacturing, renewable energy, and infrastructure. The minister said Qatar’s Vision 2030 and India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 could create prosperity for people in both nations.
