Zumba enthusiasts create breast cancer awareness

Hundreds of Zumba enthusiasts gathered yesterday at Ritz-Carlton Doha to create awareness about breast cancer.
Members of the Zumba Fitness Doha Qatar Team and other Zumba practitioners participated in the ‘Pink Ribbon Zumbathon’ which also raised funds for Qatar Cancer Society (QCS).
Dressed in pink, over 300 people performed Zumba, a dance fitness programme for two hours to convey the message of th e need for early diagnose of breast cancer as 140 cases are reported every year among Qataris and expatriates.
Zumbathon was part of events organized by the hotel, with QCS throughout October to increase awareness about breast cancer.
For some participants in the Pink Ribbon Zumbathon, it was a personal experience which had brought them to the event.
“My grandmother died because of breast cancer and it gives me stronger reason to support such an event. I believe there should be more awareness about breast cancer,” said Anqelique De Lange, a participant.
It was not just an event for women, as some men also took part. “I’m here to contribute to a cause and support the community,” said Thamer, a male participant. [The Peninsula]
