Municipal inspectors have caught a group of workers for tampering with expiry dates of large quantities of meat products which were meant to be supplied to grocery stores in the Industrial Area for retail.

Some 250kg of Australian meat products, including 205kg of expired products, were seized from their possession.

The Peninsula reported that inspectors from the health monitoring unit of Doha Municipality conducted raids on two separate places where the suspects were found mixing fresh meat products with those whose validity had expired.

The products were being prepared to be supplied to grocery shops for sale throughout the Industrial Area after repackaging and changing the expiry dates. The inspectors reached the sites, tracing the meat transport vehicles.

The ministry tweeted about it in its official twitter account as follows-

The violations were recorded under two articles, 3 and 4, of the Law No. 4 of 2014 regulating the monitoring of foodstuff, said a release issued by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.

Furthermore, in Old Ghanem area of Doha, Doha Municipality’s health inspectors caught a grocery shop for storing foodstuffs at the entrance of a neighbouring building.

A large quantity of expired and spoiled food items were seized at the site.

The place was found inappropriate and unhygienic for storage purposes. Some rotten fruits and vegetables were also seized inside the grocery shop.

The violation was registered under article No. 4 of Law No. 4 of 2014 for monitoring food items. The case was referred to the authority concerned for further legal action, said the release.

Kudos to the food inspectors. Hope they make examples out of these culprits to deter others from doing the same.
