The Doha Metro, when it finally opens in 2020, is expected to revolutionise travel within the country. Works on 37 different stations are currently underway and more than 41,000 builders are involved in the construction.

Qatar Rail authorities said that they were aiming to achieve 70% project progress rate by the end of 2017.

With 202 million man hours already put into construction, Doha Metro work enjoys one of the world’s lowest Accident Frequency Rates (AFR).

The project achieved several milestones in 2016 including completion of all tunneling works and viaducts.

In 2018, the Doha Metro will receive its first four trains. The dynamic testing of the first train will be done in Japan and several important contracts will be given out.

A business transformation programme has been launched to facilitate the company’s transformation from a rail developer to rail operator. It rests on four pillars — programme’s delivery on time, budget and quality, financial and operational sustainability, organisational efficiency and building Qatari capabilities.

Qatar Rail’s strategies centre on headway progress toward the completion of the Doha Metro, the Lusail Light Rail (LRT) and the Long Distance Rail projects.

Three lines of the Doha Metro will be launched in 2020 — red, green and gold.
