Two-thirds of companies in Qatar to go on a hiring spree this year
Jobseekers who are waiting for the tide to turn in the current job market have reasons to cheer.
The latest Middle East Job Index Survey shows that a lot of employers in the MENA region are preparing to up their hiring game. The report was compiled and published by Bayt.com, one of Middle East’s leading job sites, and research and consulting group YouGov.
At least two-thirds of employers in Qatar are planning to hire new staff this year, according to The Peninsula.
In the next three months, more than half of Qatari employers (55%) said that they are ‘definitely’ or ‘probably’ going to hire. A third of Qtaari companies (37%) are looking out for people in ‘Junior Executive’ roles.
Around 28% of them are looking out for ‘coordinators’ while 24% are searching for ‘executives’ and ‘senior executives.’
Looking at future hiring expectations, Qatar Tribune said that around 65% of Qatari employers were planning to hire within a year’s time.
Private sector companies are still expected to do a bulk of the hiring, with 69% of large local companies, 69% of other private sector companies and 68% of multinational companies saying that they will be ‘definitely hiring’ or ‘probably hiring.’
In terms of academic qualification, many Qatari employers are looking for engineering graduates or post graduates (37%), followed by business management (25%), commerce (15%), hospitality (15%) and administrative qualifications (15%), according to the survey.
More than half (54%) of employers in Qatar are looking for people with ‘good communication skills in English and Arabic.’ 49% want people who can ‘work under pressure’ and 47% are looking for ‘team players / cooperative / helpful / flexible’ candidates.
The survey results were on a sample of 3,107 respondents from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and Pakistan.

I am always intrigued by surveys and statistics... is it possible for QL reporters to follow this up later in the year and give a proper feedback..
We all know that government entities will be conservative in their spending , so it will be interesting to see who actually takes on more staff
