Traffic congestion brings Doha to standstill for second day in a row
For the second time in as many days, many parts of Doha came to a standstill following heavy traffic. A number of main as well as arterial roads witnessed blocks that were several kilometres long.
As is often the case, frustrated commuters took to social media to let their displeasure be known. Several motorists tweeted that they had to spend many hours in the traffic.

It was the shutting down of the Doha Corniche street, to celebrate the two-day visit of Saudi Arabia’s King King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, that caused the traffic snarl.
Roads leading to the area were also soon clogged and it spread to other parts of the country as well. The congestion, which started around noon, eased only towards the evening.
Even though people were aware congestion would be bad, it is understood that it was particularly bad yesterday.
Buses carrying schoolchildren home after school were one of the hardest hit. It took them several hours to complete their drop-off run.
Mohdata: This is why its always good to have a backup plan.. I had already borrowed Rizks' offroad Tuk-Tuk Tundra and managed to bypass the main routes by driving on the rough stuff ...
Come on, couldn't they just give the day off then to at least the schools and construction workers and keep the buses and trucks off?
Ani,you even went fast 1.5hrs Westbay to Wakra....Believe u me i spent 2hrs 15mins from Industrial area to Doha Ramada Signal...by the time i arrived, even if you could call me for a free Dinner outside,,,I would politely say Thank you..This was crazie unbelievable...then i thought what will happen during 2022 world cup?
How the hell do you tie a tyre to a tree ?
The situation is so worse that we couldn’t able to reach the Hospital appointment schedule @ 3.30 PM we started from wakra 3.00 PM and reach Hamad Heart hospital @ 6.00 PM and another worse thing they block the way entrance to Hospital which took another Half an Hour by walking to reach the Hospital. The police refuse to allow us even though patient has heart problem.
We make the king we make the government in order to provide us save and secure environment but unfortunately we ruled by them.
For each problem we have a solution why we always make problems instead of solutions. The best thing they can give public holiday and enjoy freedom
Muad, Ani is serious ...............
A 25% rise in petrol price would be good idea to halt the un necessary wandering ...............
It will be good to tie the tyres of the cars to a tree of those who are on the road without a valid reason . They are spoiling the innocent peoples lives ..............
Be patient my pal.. it is only temporary., back to normal tomorrow
I agree that it was hard indeed yesterday, having myself been stuck in the traffic...I tried alternate routes from West Bay to Wakra, and took me 1.5 hrs almost in the evening. I guess the alternate routes were also jammed, as people rushed here and there...
