A guide to what's closed and postponed in Qatar due to COVID-19

In accordance with the preventive and precautionary measures taken by the state to reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), below are some of the places and events which have been closed  and postponed until further notice.

In-person money exchange and transfer service offices- closed 

The Government of the State of Qatar today announced the temporary closure of in-person money exchange and transfer service offices in Qatar starting, effective 26 March. This is a part of wider measures introduced by the Government to close non-essential shops and public spaces.

Beaches and Public Parks

Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) announces the closure of all parks and beaches in the state, as well as the end of the winter camping season.

Driving Schools

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) announced on its official Twitter page that under an ambition "to maintain public safety" driving classes and tests at driving schools in Qatar will be stopped, effective from Sunday, March 22, 2020.

Ooredoo

In alignment with the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management’s directives, Ooredoo closed all retail shops in shopping malls until further notice. Download and use the Ooredoo App that can handle virtually all your needs from the comfort and safety of your home. You can also use the self-care services online and Contact Centre on 111. You can get in touch with us via WhatsApp on 4414 4414 for any further assistance. The following branches will remain open: Al Khor, Al Sadd, Salwa Road, Airport Road and Al Wakrah.

The organizers have confirmed that the event has been rescheduled for November 13, 2020.

IKEA

In the interest of the safety of co-workers and customers, IKEA decided to temporarily close the store in Doha, effective March 19. You can still shop online and get everything delivered and assembled for free. You can also enjoy your favourite food from our Bistro, Restaurant and Swedish Food Market as takeaways. 

Mosques across Qatar- Closed 

Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs tweeted that all the mosques across Qatar will remain closed from today.

Five obligatory prayers and Friday prayers will be stopped from today noon, until safety is assured to the worshipers to combat COVID-19.

Dining in restaurants and cafes- Closed 

To prevent the coronavirus spread, dining inside restaurants & cafes, gathering outside their premises is prohibited. Only delivery & take away is permitted.

Qatar National Library- Closed 

To reduce the chance of infection and transmission of coronavirus, Qatar Foundation announces the closure of Qatar National Library to the public until further notice.

Aspire Park- Closed

Aspire Zone Foundation announce to postpone all activities until further notice.

In addition to Aspire Active programs at Ladies Club and all facilities in the Aspire Dome will be suspended from March 11, 2020 until further notice.

Walking/ Jogging trails closed from Sunday, 22 March until further notice.

Katara Cultural Village Events- Closed

In continuation of the precautionary measures taken by the State of Qatar to prevent and contain the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), Katara announces the suspension of all its activities for a period of two weeks starting March 15

Losail International Circuit Events- Postponed 

Due to the current situation regarding COVID-19 and following the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Losail Circuit Sports Club will be suspending all the community events (training days, ladies training days, karting and track days) from Tuesday, March 17, 2020, until further notice.

2020 World Superbike Championship is postponed until further notice.

As the global coronavirus outbreak continues, travel restrictions to Qatar have been enforced, primarily affecting passengers from Italy, amongst others. People arriving directly from the country or who have been in Italy in the past two weeks will be taken directly to quarantine for a minimum of 14 days.

Italian participation in WorldSBK – both on track and off – is vital, thus the decision has been taken to postpone.

Msheireb Tram- Closed 

Msheireb Tram will be out of service until further notice for protection and to reduce any chance of transmission of the coronavirus.

Qatar Foundation- Closed/Canceled 

Qatar Foundation (QF) is continually monitoring the evolving worldwide coronavirus (COVID-19).

QF confirms that classes are moved online at all QF schools, partner universities and Hamad Bin Khalifa University until further notice.

The service on the Education City Tram is suspended until further notice.

Holi Reloaded- Postponed 

Holi Reloaded which was set for March 13, is now postponed until further notice.

Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX)

The organizers of Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX)
event in Qatar later this month has been canceled while the Defence Services Asia (DSA-
2020) has been rescheduled to August 24-27 in view of the global spread of the COVID-19
virus. 

QIA Champions League

The Qatar Indian Association for Sports and Games postponed their biggest football tournament, QIA Champions League. The opening ceremony of this event usually attracts full crowds. It is one of my favorite sports events in Qatar as it mixes music, cultural shows and football.

Children’s play area in public parks- Closed 

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment has issued a statement saying all children’s play area in public parks will remain closed.

In the statement published on social media the ministry said: “In the context of preventive measures and precautionary measures taken by Qatar to reduce the spread of the coronavirus (Covid 19), the Ministry of Municipality and Environment has decided to close all the children's play area in the parks, in order to ensure the safety and health of visitors.”

Qatar Museums- Closed 

Qatar Museums announces the closure of museums and heritage sites to visitors until further notice. 

The following events are canceled:

MIA Bazaar, NMoQ Baraha Souq, workshops, and school visits.

Msheireb Museums- Closed 

Due to the current situation, Msheireb Museums will be closed until further notice.

Al Khor Family Park- Closed 

Al Khor Family Park will be closed for public until further notice said the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.  

Dahl Al Hamam Park

The park will be closed for public until further notice.

QOC and QFA suspends all activities 

Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and the Qatar Football Association (QFA) have suspended all their activities until March 29. QOC said the activities of different age groups have been suspended indefinitely .

SJC suspends court sessions 

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) announced the suspension of the sessions of the Court of Appeal, the Court of First Instance, Labour Disputes Settlement Committee and Rental Disputes Settlements Committee as of Sunday (15 March, 2020), for two weeks.

All Hotels: 

In order to complete the efforts and precautionary measures taken by the State to combat COVID-19, the decision has been taken to close all specialized clubs of categories (A) and (C) as of Saturday, March 14, until further notice.

In addition to that, all all health clubs including spas, gyms, swimming pools are closed from March 15 until further notice.

All the restaurants in the hotels are closed except for providing room service, catering service outside the hotel and take away services.

Cinema- Closed

Public Transportation- Closed

Malls (except food outlets)- Closed 

Gym, Salons, Barbers- Closed
