Texas teen arrested over homemade clock to visit Qatar

Heard of the 14-year-old boy from Texas who was arrested for bringing in a clock that he had built to school? Well, he is going to be visiting Doha soon.

Doha News reports that Qatar Foundation (QF) has invited him to come to Qatar and take a tour of Education City.

Ahmed Mohamed was arrested earlier this month when his school had presumed that he had brought in a bomb to school.

He was held by the Police for a brief period on potential of hoax bomb charges after he had taken a homemade clock to show to his teacher.

Mohamed was also suspended from school for three days and no formal charges were filed.

However, Mohamed has been receiving a great deal of support from various social media sites.

Many famous personalities including US President Barack Obama, Mark Zackerburg, Hilary Clinton, NASA etc. have extended their support towards Mohamed.

Mohamed has been touring the US the past week and he has even met the Prime Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu at the UN.

Now, according to a statement made by Mohamed's father in the Dallas Morning News, Mohamed will visit Qatar under QF’s invitation and tour Education City.

It appears that you only believe one side of the story. It is always better to read different versions and keep an open mind.

Recent history teaches us that 'disinformation' is the order of the day

britexpat: After reading the report of Washington Post couple of things flashed through my mind: First, any one with devilish designs would never display something as a bomb but would immediately trigger it off to achieve his objectives. Secondly, it was indeed hilarious to read that a sister asked that her brother's handcuffs to be kept on so that she could take a snap! Ha! Ha! Are handcuffs a piece of jewelry or something to be proud of? It appears the writer of the report doesn't have a real sister.

Democratic party needed such thing during Election campaign, Democratic party could lose Texas and Ahmad gave them a good comeback and good number of voters for upcoming elections. On side note Ahmed was/is intelligent enough to milk it till last drop!

The fact that he was HANDCUFFED by the police, not given a chance to explain is unacceptable specially for a little boy.

Just think about this, if you're the teacher and a student brings a thing that you think is a bomb? I would react quickly by throwing that thing away outside the window for sure!

But what his teacher did was she assumed its a bomb, sitting down, calling authority and some shit. No sense of panic for someone who thinks a bomb is right in front of her.

Now that's shady!

acchabaccha: I think this story will develop further. There are now rumours that it was a publicity stunt. Let's wait and see.

I would agree that the school perhaps over reacted, but then I also think that you are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Anyway, he is flying to Qatar and I hope he enjoys himself.

accha: the only truth I see is that your action shows the true hatred generated from within, because the reporter didn't say anything about the boy being handcuff or treated badly.

Wild Turkey: No, you are totally "off-center" on this view. What I have stated are true facts. It is always difficult for some people to face the truth. That demands much courage.

acchabaccha: I doubt whether the actions were because of "hatred within" - more probably to do with paranoia.

Anyway, let's agree to disagree and wish him luck for the future.

I could not come across a stronger word than "brutal" in my vocabulary. Frankly, I would prefer to die before before being handcuffed and paraded in front of people. A handcuff is not a piece of "jewelry." I wish you would understand the mental trauma a decent, law-abiding citizen of a country would go through if he gets handcuffed by the authorities. The action of the school and the police is not just a "simple fact." There was an over-reaction and absolute misuse of power generated by hatred within.

"met with brutal treatment at hands of the champions of democracy and upholders of the flag of Human Rights."

Come on now. Brutal ?

The simple fact is that the school and police acted wrongly. Then the press got hold of the story and then the PC brigade took over.

I hope he enjoys his fifteen minutes of fame and uses this to get a good education (free) and make something of himself

MORALE lesson of the story? anyone? Racial Discrimination / Profiling never leads to anything good anyway. but as always, nobody learns this, and this is a FACT. Only way to ERASE this is a GIANT METEORITE around 7 km in diameter.

mohdata: How could he be milking it consciously? He did not ask Obama to invite him to the White House, or did he? Mark Zackerburg, Hillary Clinton and NASA supported him on their own and not on his request. The young man has nothing to do with all the attention the single incident has got him. It is just the sun has begun shining his way when he met with brutal treatment at hands of the champions of democracy and upholders of the flag of Human Rights.

By mohdata• 29 Sep 2015 20:27
mohdata

Yeah, even though im not sure he is consciously milking it; it has been overdone a bit for sure by the people extending their support...theres been many people hard done by for similar reasons in the US, who havent even received a cursory apology, let alone gifts, job offers and world tours...

By acchabaccha• 29 Sep 2015 19:52
acchabaccha

True. But the actions now being taken by many both in the US and across the world would help the young man to forget the mental trauma he went through and move ahead in life. At age 14, he still has a long way to go.

I don't "think" he was terribly handled. I "firmly believe" he was simply because he had a brown skin and a "wrong" name. But then luck came to his side and it has showered him with blessings. He himself is not "milking" anything from the incident. Life has shown him both the sour side and now the sweet side within a very short span of time.

i think he was hard done by, but now he's milking it for all its worth :o(
