Temperature to drop during weekend
According to the latest weather charts from the Qatar Meteorology Department, Qatar is all set to see a cold wave this coming weekend. The cold wave is said to last between dawn on Thursday, February 2 and Sunday, February 5 and is a result of the extension of a Siberian high pressure system along with strong northwesterly winds. Cloud amounts are also expected to gradually increase from the evening on Wednesday to Thursday with chances of scattered rain in different parts of Qatar.
Temperatures may drop 3-6 degrees below average with maximum temperature in Doha varying between 17°C to 20°C and minimum temperature varying between 10°C to 13°C. In the southern part of Qatar and in open areas, temperature may drop below 7°C, which may seem even less because of windy conditions.
Wind speeds are expected to vary between 15 to 28 knots inland (with 35 knots wind gusts at times), while visibility may drop to below 2km in some areas of the country because of dust.
In the north of the country, winds may reach 35km offshore with waves rising above 15ft. The Qatar Meteorology Department is cautioning all Qatari residents to be careful and avoid activities near the sea during this timeframe.
