Some hotels in Qatar asked not to celebrate Valentine's Day
Qatar's Ministry of Interior seems to have dampened the usual festivities for a few residents as they instructed some hotels and restaurants not to celebrate Valentine's Day.
High-end hotels like Intercontinental Doha, the Torch and the W Doha have been advised by authorities not to ornate rooms or tables with special decorations.
Doha News reports that hotels have been asked to avoid the typical Valentine's Day decorations like hearts, arrows, flowers, petals or “happy Valentine’s Day” signs.
However, hotels such as the Sheraton Doha will have special tables set up, but will still stay away from excessive decorations elsewhere in the restaurant and hotel.
Each year on February 14th, many people exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special "valentine." The day of romance we call Valentine's Day is based on the feast of St. Valentine.
Residents found celebrating the occasion in Qatar will not be punished, unlike Saudi Arabia, where Valentine's Day is banned by the religious police and offenders could face severe punishment.
What are your plans for Valentine's Day?
Some say that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome
