Smart Vests can now help a worker keep cool, and also translate languages for them
Over the years, Qatar has been doing a lot to improve the condition of workers in the country. A while back, authorities introduced a revolutionary ‘smart vest’ that could keep workers several degrees cooler during the summer heat.
The Smart Vest, introduced by Qatar’s Ministry of Interior's (MoI), not only cools the wearer’s body but also continuously measure their vital signs. It has now been enhanced with the capability to translate between languages, reported Gulf Times.
“The Smart Vest users can set their language of preference, and any conversation they are listening to will be translated,” said Major engineer Ali Hassan Al Rashed, commander of security systems and technology, Lekhwiya.
The official demonstrated a prototype of the Smart Vest at a media event. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) had praised the invention at their annual conference in Geneva.
The smart vest was one of four innovations by the MoI that won a gold medal at the 11th International Inventions Exhibition in the Middle East held in Kuwait recently.
The smart vest is equipped with sensors that measure the heartbeat of the worker and breath, which alerts authorities in case of emergencies. It is supplied by power through solar cells attached to it and cools down temperature automatically for the worker in hot weather, reported Qatar Tribune.
In addition to the Smart Vest, the MoI participated with three more innovative devices — a Smart the Security Investigator, Smart Security Robot, and Automatic Detector for Explosives and Drugs.
“Smart the Security Investigator won the Grand Prize and won first place in the Geneva International Invention Exhibition. It is an innovation that more accurate in detecting contraband and giving indications of suspicious passengers, thus enhancing the efficiency of operating the country’s ports without affecting the capacity of the movement of the departures and arrivals,” Al Rashed was quoted as saying by The Peninsula.
The smart security robot can detect suspects at the airport and identify the faces of those wanted through a fingerprint. It also helps for the detection of weapons and explosives and the detection of counterfeit currency and fake credit cards.
The device is a security robot on a three-wheeled scooter driven by a security man inside the airport.
Thermal cameras, sensors, computer monitors and other technical devices are installed on the device, which scans documents, identity papers, currencies and credit cards.
The automatic explosive and drug detectors are more accurate in the identification of drugs, weapons and explosives. The device can detect all components of the bags, including dark corners, and in the case of entering any bag carrying narcotics or explosive materials, even in tiny quantities or some weapons.
