Riders undeterred by ban on cycling along Corniche
A ban on cycling on the walkway along the Doha Corniche has failed to deter a number of people, particularly youth, who seem to be unaware of the restriction, Gulf Times reported.
Signboards along the more than 6km promenade warn people against cycling.
However, the errant cyclists cause considerable difficulties to walkers, including families who flock to the area.
These cyclists can be seen zipping past people who are out walking or jogging along the promenade.
With the summer at its peak, there has been a sharp rise in the number of joggers, especially late in the evening.
Many of the cyclists bring the bikes in their vehicles. There are also others who cycle to the Corniche from different areas of the city. Some of the cyclists can be seen carrying pillion riders.
"While some of the erring cyclists readily agree to obey the rules when explained about the ban in place and they take their cycles away, there’re others who pay no heed to the pleas of the walkers," said a regular walker.
Residents who frequent Corniche for jogging or walking feel the authorities could provide the cyclists a proper path where they can ride.

@ Nomad you cannot expect everyone to go so far to HIA for cycling. What about kids. All small parks also have banned kids cycling
@ Lemuel Agree to your point
@Cream Tease HAHAHA!! Lol xD Then Just Put Pokemon Lures on the Walker Lane :P
Lemuel, this would only double the crime rate as then you would have walkers walking in the cycle lane
lol, i agree with the ban.. but they didn't offer any alternatives either.. hence people don't bother to obey the rules... if they have a cycle friendly lane alongside corniche in which they could separate the Walkers/Jogglers/Cyclists then it's Great.. Come on it's 2016 now and it's nearly 2022 this should have been planned along ago.. look at dubai. Will not hope they will come up with a plan soon. Look I love cylcing but cannot enjoy it here due to the fact that People Drive Crazy Here and it's more fun that just running around though it's more active than cycling.
Rather than obey the laws , many say they should be relaxed ..
Perhaps cars should be allowed on the pavement
We need some relaxation, when he sees a walker close by he may come down from the bike , when there is no walker in the near by area he may restart paddling ...............
There's a nice bicycle path along the HIA hi-way. Its much a safer option as it is away from the traffic.
Otherwise where is the place for cycling.
As usual, laws are ignored. Bravo!
We support the ban
Here's a wheeze of an idea. Get a couple of police to patrol the area and fine the cyclists.
