Revised sponsorship laws to take effect from December

A senior official from the Ministry of Interior has said that new laws regulating the entry, exit and residency of expatriates in Qatar will come into effect mid-December this year.

"The Ministry will hold a press conference to announce the details after the issuance of an executive regulation of the law ahead of its implementation," said Captain Abdullah Khalifa Al Muhannadi from the General Directorate of Border Passport and Expatriate Affairs.

Al Muhannadi reiterated this while speaking at a panel discussion on 'The services and facilities provided by the government to expatriate families in Qatar'.

He stressed that the new law abolishes the sponsorship system and replaces it with the job contract system in regulating the relationship between an expatriate worker and an employer, making penalties stricter for violations by employers. Further, the new legislation abolishes the two-year ban on expatriates who want to come back to the country on a new visa.

The discussion was held under a roundtable conference entitled 'Expatriates families in Qatar, opportunities and challenges', organised by Doha International Centre for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID).

The event was attended by senior government officials, experts in expatriate issues in Qatar and representatives from expatriate communities and religious complexes, according to local media reports.

The conference aimed to create a culture of dialogue to promote co-existence among communities in the country, said Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, Chairman, DICID.

The conference meant to table the achievements of expatriate families, opportunities available for them and the problems they faced, said Dr Al Nuaimi.

Some officials were also invited to explain measures taken by the government to improve the situation of expatriate families and solve their problems, he added. [Qatar News Agency, The Peninsula, Gulf Times]

Find some peaceful people out here who are getting healthy salaries...and sitting behind comfortable couches...having family in here and specially dogs as well that what making them talk buttery, go and work out there in 50 degrees soaring heat, drink water through stained sand filled filters, get 1000 QR monthly then you will realize what is so IMPORTANT this law is gonna be for those ''Impatient'' ones....its so easier to comment...but tough to cope....I would suggest buying a lollipop and Enjoy yourself...

@ WT. Yes,they must remember that their sponsor is their father and they must travel every 2 years to see their family (original family).

Also, never complain if you are not paid because your sponsor is your father.

Joy to all and sadness to them.......

and then to 2018, then 2019, then 2020, then 2021, then 2022. After the world cup is over, the proposed law will be rejected. Hence joys to all.

I know people who have endless problems with their sponsors. Some haven't received their salaries for 10 months! Joys to you all, nevertheless. Remember: your sponsor is your father.

We will not have any issues in the future - remember that the person who gives you the job is your guardian and father figure - he must be obeyed and looked up to .. This way we will all have joys and money in the bank ...

Do not give in to greedy in laws and only go home every two years to save money
