Report: Al-Jazeera to lay off up to 1000 employees to cut costs

Launched in 1996 with a loan from the Qatari Emir of that time, Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Al-Jazeera has since then remained state funded.

It is a well reputed news organization that also faced many controversies from its first televised interview with an Israeli speaking Hebrew to broad casting video statements from Al-Qaeda leaders.

However, now Al-Jazeera is expected to cut hundreds of jobs worldwide as they try to make savings in the falling oil price and also a possible radical change in investment strategy.

It has been reported by The Guardian that almost one quarter of the total workforce, that is around 800-1000 staff will be laid off by Al-Jazeera. Also, the news organization might get less commitment from the state of Qatar.

These surprising job cuts are expected to be announced soon after the Eid Al-Adha celebrations.

The move, although is totally unanticipated, comes amidst the fall in the Gas and Oil prices, and after the news organization spent more than $600 million over the launch of the Al-Jazeera America in 2013.

It has also been found out that the layoff will be from the whole Al-Jazeera organization except Al-Jazeera America.

All broadcasters, technicians and journalists, save those from the Al-Jazeera America, will be told of this cut down over the next few days.

Insiders say that the Arabic journalists from Doha are especially at risk as Al-Jazeera’s stance of several of the Middle East’s most troubled areas of conflict could cause problems if they are forced to return home.

Many rumours about this layoff has been spreading all over the Arab network since the past few days. One particular Egyptian newspaper has reported that this layoff would be the “final nail in the coffin of the Al-Jazeera empire”.

It has also been assumed that the job cuts could mean that the Qatari authorities are planning to invest over some other channels like, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed TV station.

Although Al-Jazeera America is appeared to be protected from these job cuts, it has been reported that the network has been suffering low ratings since its launch and also the replacements of its Chief Executive in May and some other senior staff has shook the network a lot.

waheed11221122 you are damn jealous of your friend. If he lost the job, you will find happiness. See how cruel you are. Why do you take Satan as your companion. You should be happy if your brother is happy.

In the West, there are Muslims who live in harmony with the Non Muslims...But there is another group..In their heart is a disease with a wicked agenda..and they breathe into the hearts of the Muslims that the Non Muslim is your enemy.

The West would not make any money if the Muslims would build their own weapons. And the West would not make any money if the Muslims rebuilt their countries themselves. Are they too stupid to do it?

Donot categorize Non Muslims as a single Group with the same agenda. There are Non Muslims who live in harmony with the Muslims...But there is another group..In their heart is a disease with a wicked agenda..and they breathe into the hearts of the Muslims that the other Muslim is your enemy. For example the US tells Saudi that Iran is your Enemy and signs Weapons deal with Saudi and tells Iran Saudi is your enemy and signs Nuclear Deal with Iran. Iran is a Muslim country and Saudi is a Muslim Country. The Muslims are killed by Muslims...due to Non Muslim provocation.

Take the time to ponder over the game behind all that is taking place. The war between Muslims results in the killing of each other, reduction in their population, destruction of their infrastructure, a push-back on their economy, a drain on their reserves let alone the breading of hatred. Who gains from this? It is the powers who want to sell their guns and grenades, bombs and bullets, mortars and missiles. The income from such sales oils the war machinery of these super powers and strengthens their economy. Just take the Iraq-Iran war for example. The world powers sold billions of dollars worth of weapons to both countries. There was an estimated loss of 200,000 lives on both side – all Muslims. Had this money been used for constructive purposes, it would have changed the destiny of poor Muslim countries. Then when a war comes to an end, it is these very same world powers and developed nations who take over the role of reconstruction and churn out money from big projects bringing in their manpower and material. They earn both ways. The need of the hour is peace, which hardly anybody talks of. No concerted effort has been made in this direction even by the United Nations to bring the Houthis and Gulf nations to the table for talks. It is now for both sides to look into ways of finding a solution to this burning issue of how to stop this war and think on lines of peace. Countries such as Pakistan which has good relations with both Iran and the Gulf countries should play a prominent role in bringing both sides to the peace table. Otherwise, the internal divisions among Muslims would just allow non-state actors the opportunity to carry out with the dirty agenda, and that is clearly visible.

Prophet has forbidden a war between Muslims. Muslims-who-fight-each-other-will-both-be-in-hell. Even carrying a weapon against another Muslim is Forbidden in Islam. Fighting between Muslims is not Jihad. It is cowardice and an act due to Ignorance.I remind all of you to a saying of our Prophet with warning that both the Killer Muslim and Killed Muslim will both be in hell for fighting each other with weapons.(Ref: Bukhari - Volume 9, Book 88, Number 204)

Abu Bakra Narrates: I heard Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) saying, "If two Muslims meet each other with their weapons then the killer and the killed are are both bound for the (Hell) Fire." I said, "O Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) It is alright for the killer, but what about the killed one?" Prophet said, “Because the killed one intended to kill just as much as the killer."” [Bukhari & Muslim]

Can you name a few of the journalists who died please

By KHAN.• 23 Sep 2015 23:26
KHAN.

Well Done....

Atleast they stop reporting Live News from War Zone that helps the criminals to get feedback of their criminal activity.

A lot of Al Jazeera journalists had died from the reporting from war zone:

While we celebrate and enjoy this day, please donot forget that we need to stop the war among Brothers.

War is not the option...All are Brothers ...whether Yemeni, Saudi, Irani, Qatari, Bahraini...

Please donot kill .

What happens is civillians are injured and even those who donot want to fight against the coalition begins to fight because their family members have been killed by coalition in accident.

Fear Allah...

Nobody have right to kill his Muslim Brother..

Whether he is Shia or Sunni..

He is your bother ...His Prophet is Muhammed and his God is Allah.

Scholars from Sunni and Shia should meet to find a solution...

By Allah, This war will bring disaster only...nothing Good.

Taqabbal Allah Minna wa Minkum (may Allah accept it from you and us)
