Qatari Prime Minister opens this year’s Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani formally opened the 16th edition of The Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre yesterday.
The opening ceremony was attended by some ministers, ambassadors, VIPs, industry experts and other dignitaries.
Sheikh Abdullah, who is also the event’s patron, toured the 29,000SqM exhibition that will run for six days, reported Gulf Times.
The event is being organised by Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) in association with Auditoire.
The exhibition, which will continue until February 25, features more than 500 brands showing exclusive jewellery and watches from over ten countries.
The exhibition showcases some of the most famous international brands, in addition to the latest jewellery designs and rare precious stones.
The minister visited the young Qataris’ pavilion to see their creative work in the field of designing jewellery and precious stones inspired by Qatari heritage.
He also inaugurated the Indian pavilion, participating in the exhibition as part of the Qatar-India Year of Culture 2019, reported The Peninsula.
“As the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition celebrates its 16th year, it has become one of the oldest and fastest-growing exhibitions in Qatar and the region,” said QNTC Secretary-General Akbar Al Baker.
“We’re proud of the sizeable Qatari participation in this event, and I’d particularly like to recognise the Young Qatari Designers who’re contributing stunning and luxurious pieces that are present as strong competition to international brands,” he was quoted as saying by Qatar Tribune.
French watch-making experts Objectif Horlogerie has invited visitors to attend their unique handcraft workshop where they can learn about the fascinating and complex watchmaking industry and assemble their unique watches.
The exhibition offers a wide range of jewellery services and consultations, including valuable advice from gem experts from the famous French auction house Artcurial.
