Qatari families concerned over maids running away
Some citizens have expressed concern over the “growing trend” of housemaids running away while travelling abroad with Qatari families during the summer holidays, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
They pointed out the housemaids escaped in the hope of getting higher salaries in those countries, particularly in Europe, or were sometimes helped by others in escaping, the report states.
Such housemaids may approach the embassy of her native country and claim that they are exposed to exploitation, which may cause legal problems for their sponsors, and may also seek asylum, the citizens add.
A number of nationals the daily spoke to advised fellow citizens not to take their housemaids along while going abroad during the summer vacation except when it’s absolutely necessary.
A citizen said a housemaid who gets a UK visa – for instance - may see it as a golden and one-time opportunity that can allow her to get a job for a higher salary or even get married to a local man and obtain British nationality, according to the report.
He claimed that he came to know about some cases in which housemaids ran away immediately after their arrival in a foreign country while others waited until the last day of the vacation.
Keep on crying out no one is interested to hear you, keep on paying for unskilled labors, maids and drivers, and still no one will listen to you.
Create a maid company that could regulate and standardize their hiring and working in the country in order to ensure qualitative improvement.
sure they can make more elsewhere but you have to also factor in the food, shelter and transportation medical etc etc...
Exactly Zaq. According to the average salaries in the UK, a housemaid/cleaner would be earning about 7500Qar per month, compared to earning maybe 800Qar in Qatar. Why would she want to stay and work in a family that forces her to work 7 days per week when she can live in a country where she works 5 days per week and earns almost 10x as much?http://www.payscale.com/research/UK/Job=Maid_or_Housekeeping_Cleaner/Hourly_Rate
Under what circumstances is it "absolutely necessary" to take your maid to the UK?
If they can get 10 times salary with the same working condition as they work here, then why not???
Tell me, if any housemaid is working in a fixed & limited working hours (60 hours/6 days a week) with day-off in the weekend ?
