Qatar, which hosts the USA’s biggest airbase in the region, has always been one of the country’s staunchest allies.

As a result, the USA has been taking an active interest in ending the illegal siege of Qatar by neighbouring countries, which is now nearing the two-month phase.

Qatari and American naval forces have conducted several joint exercises in Doha in recent months.

On Monday, Qatar’s Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah visited US super carrier USS Nimitz, which is one of the world’s largest warships and the lead ship of its class. It is currently present in the Arabian Gulf, reported Gulf Times.

The Directorate of Moral Guidance at the Ministry of Defence said Al Attiyah got to see the super carrier’s high-technological capacity and capabilities.

The visit of the Minister of State for Defense Affairs to the aircraft carrier was in the context of military bilateral cooperation and coordination between the two friendly nations, as well as in the context of joint counter-terrorism operations, reported The Peninsula

The USS Nimitz weighs as much as a 100 tonnes and is 330M long. The staff operating it can reach up to 5,680 and it carries close to 90 jets.
