Qatar, Turkey and Russia stress need to preserve Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity
His Excellencies the Foreign Ministers of Qatar, Russia and Turkey held a press conference in Doha yesterday, following their first consultative, closed-door meeting to discuss the Syrian crisis.
The three ministers stressed the need to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people.
HE Qatar’s FM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani drew attention to the intensity of the Syrian crisis and its impact on the Syrian people, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tripartite meeting looked into the humanitarian conditions of the Syrian people and discussed ways to provide aid to them quickly.
The three countries expressed a unified stance for a political solution to the Syrian crisis, guided by relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
HE Sheikh Mohammed noted that the meeting between the ministers in Doha echoes the support of the three countries for the UN Secretary-General and his envoy to Syria as well as the support of the Constitutional Committee.
Humanitarian support to Syrians all over the country must be increased, HE Qatar’s FM stressed, adding that this should be done without discrimination or politicization.

HE Sheikh Mohammed also laid emphasis on the voluntary and safe return of refugees and displaced persons in line with mechanisms followed in this regard.
The meeting also discussed the importance of cooperation and support initiatives to support confidence between the Syrian parties, in a way that contributes to creating an atmosphere for the success of the process.
Qatar is committed to its humanitarian and moral responsibility and has been supporting the brotherly people of Syria throughout the Syrian crisis, HE Sheikh Mohamed mentioned.
He emphasized the significance of organizing such tripartite meetings amongst concerned countries from time to time to enhance joint work.
