Qatar is Somalia’s reliable ally, says Somali PM’s Advisor

Qatar has been a key supporter of Somalia for several years.
In times of need and emergency, the country has been one of the first to offer a helping hand to Somalia with medical and relief aid.
In terms of economic support, last year His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani promised Qatar's support in balancing the Somali budget with QR73 million.
To further strengthen bilateral ties, Qatar is also backing the construction of a new port in central Somalia.
Owing to these ongoing supportive efforts, a top official from Somalia has called Qatar "the main reliable ally of Somalia."
Speaking at a symposium, held by the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on "elite culture in Somalia," Somali PM's Senior Advisor for Peace and Reconciliation Dr Abdurahman Abdullahi Baadiyow said his country is being built again, acknowledging Qatar's unconditional support in this regard.
Qatar has always stood by Somalia, even during the civil war, he said, noting that the Somali community is one of the oldest communities in the Gulf country.
His Excellency the Director of the Diplomatic Institute Dr Abdulaziz bin Mohamed Al Horr moderated the symposium.
He highlighted his country's position rejecting the illegal blockade imposed on Qatar. With this he said, the siege nations have withheld any political, humanitarian and development support to Somalia.
He further mentioned that Qatar offers essential help to Somalia in the fields of security and development, complemented by several economic, financial, and political agreements signed between the two nations in recent years.
In the future, the Somali official said, his country seeks to further increase cooperation with Qatar in caring for young people, setting up sporting facilities, and forming sports teams to allow societal transformation in Somalia.
The country will rise above its challenges, with the support of its brothers, Baadiyow mentioned.
