Qatar, through its continuous efforts to support other countries, has once again made it clear that the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) requires solidarity and cooperation.

Recently, the country joined hands with four other countries including Canada, Denmark, South Korea, and Sierra Leone, to launch a global forum, the Group of Friends of Solidarity for Global Health Security, to advance multilateral cooperation.

In addition to this, upon the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar has been extending help to several countries deeply impacted by COVID-19.

In the last three months, Qatar has come to the aid of more than 20 countries including China, Iran, Italy, Lebanon, Nepal, Palestine, among others.

While it intensifies the fight against the virus within the country, Qatar also plays an exceptional role in helping other countries as they deal with the pandemic.

Yesterday, Qatar, through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), sent urgent medical assistance to three more countries including, Ukraine, Moldova, and Ethiopia.

The shipments that weighed 27 tonnes were delivered by Qatar Airways and contained medical equipment and supplies such as masks, sterilizers, and medical disinfectants, QFFD said.

In Ethiopia, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Ethiopia, Dr Ergoge Tesfaye; Minister of State in the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, Dr D Dujma; and Qatar's ambassador to Ethiopia Hamad bin Mohamed al-Dosari, received the aid shipment.

In Moldova, the Minister of the Interior of Moldova, Pavel Fico; State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Dumitru Sokolan; Assistant Minister of Health, Labour and Social Protection Alexandro H; and acting charge d'affaires at the embassy of Qatar to Moldova, Hamad bin Rashid al-Athba received the 8.5-tonne shipment on arrival.

QFFD Director-General, Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari commented, "This medical assistance provided by the State of Qatar to friendly countries comes within the framework of the efforts made to combat the spread of this pandemic, which represents a common threat facing the whole world, and in the context of joint international responsibility."

The assistance reinforces Qatar's position in supporting friendly countries to overcome this crisis, he added.

Meanwhile, health authorities in the country continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.

For any queries, or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by the Ministry. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
