Qatar and Saudi embassies in Ankara deny alleged coup attempt in Doha on June 5

There seems to be no end to false news circulating on world media regarding alleged coup attempts in Qatar.

The latest story to hit the Internet is that Turkish troops helped prevent a coup attempt by protecting HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s palace on June 5 night. The story, which was reported in Turkish media, is completely false.

The Qatari and Saudi Arabian Embassies in Ankara put up different statements saying the reports to be false.

The attempted coup report was carried by several reputed Turkish dailies and websites after it was first reported on by a columnist for Yeni Şafak daily.

Qatar’s embassy in Ankara, while acknowledging and praising Turkey's political and diplomatic efforts for reconciliation in the Gulf, said the report was baseless and inaccurate, reported The Daily Sabah.

In the original report, the columnist — Mehmet Acet — had claimed that Turkish forces played a big role in stopping a political coup.

The embassy said in a statement that there were several baseless allegations including the claim that Qatari government demanded that Turkish Special Forces protect the palace of the Emir on the night of June 5.

“The diplomatic and political efforts of ally and friendly countries, primarily the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Turkey contributed much to curb attempts of the countries of blockade to escalate military tensions against the State of Qatar,” the statement said.

The Saudi embassy in Turkey also said that what the magazine published contained ‘false allegations’ against the kingdom, reported informo.tv.
