Qatar Rail signs an agreement to purchase 35 additional trains for use by Doha Metro
There is little doubt that the Doha Metro, once opened, will change the face of public transportation in the country.
And with each passing day, the project becomes bigger and better.
Just yesterday, the Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) announced it has signed an agreement with Japanese firm Kinki Sharyo Co Ltd to procure 35 additional trains for the Doha Metro, taking the total number of trains serving the project to 110, according to Gulf Times.

The additional trains is expected to help increase the overall capacity of the Doha Metro system, especially when Qatar hosts the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The more than one million visitors who will visit the country during the tournament are expected to make extensive use of the rail system. The trains will also serve the future expansion of Doha Metro lines.
A joint cooperation agreement was also signed with Mowasalat to provide transport services for metro passengers through their taxi service Karwa, reported The Peninsula.
Under the agreement, Karwa will give Doha Metro passengers who book a taxi with them a special discount from and to the Metro stations.
Qatar Rail had recently announced that the company had achieved 90% progress in the Doha Metro Phase 1 Programme. While civil works have been completed at all stations, MEP and architectural works are progressing at all 37 stations.
