Qatar population growing back to normal as residents return in large numbers

Qatar's population is peaking following a gradual rise in arrivals according to the latest figures released by Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics for September.

At 2.553mn, Qatar's September population was 6.3% higher than the August figures (2.402mn), according to local media reports.

The rise in population is mainly due to the return of many of the country's residents after the summer holidays and the mass arrival of workers newly recruited for ongoing infrastructural projects.

The ministry stated the latest figure was at least 8% more than the figures of the corresponding period last year.

Qatar's population touched an all-time high on May 31 when it reached 2.587mn. However, the population gradually declined in the next three months as a large number of residents exited the country during the summer break.

Qatar recorded the lowest population figures this year in July with 2.326 mn people in the country.

The population is expected to surpass the previous highest figure by the end of this month. The growth will continue at least until the end of April next year, it is learnt. [Gulf Times, Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics]
