Qatar placed very high in the World Competitiveness Ranking by IMD
Qatar came in for some good performances in the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2017, published by Swiss-based International Institute for Management Development (IMD).
The yearbook, which has been published since 1989, measures nations on their competitiveness based on several factors.
In the 2017 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook, Qatar was ranked eighth in economic performance, 11th in government efficiency, 12th in terms of business sector’s efficiency and 38th in the infrastructure sector, reported Gulf Times.
Overall, the annual report placed Qatar as 17th among 63 countries, mostly developed ones.
At 28th place, Qatar remained unchanged in the digital competitiveness ranking.
These rankings indicate the country’s strong performance at various levels. Qatar’s ranking was positively impacted by many factors including strong economic performance represented by low unemployment rate, high fixed capital formation ratio of GDP, domestic savings ratio of GDP, trade balance ratio of GDP, and overall productivity increase.
“These results have enhanced Qatar's position in different fields, and it’ll help us to see the categories where we need to put more efforts,” Qatar’s Minister of Development Planning and Statistics HE Dr Saleh bin Mohammed Al Nabit was quoted as saying by The Peninsula.
