Qatar helps employees of Hamas administration by injecting more cash into Gaza
Qatar has been helping in the smooth functioning of administration in Gaza by paying money to help pay salaries. This move had also been widely hailed.
Now, Qatar has injected more money to Gaza, thereby helping pay salaries of employees for the second month in a row, reported Gulf Times.
The fresh injection of cash from Qatar comes at a time when tensions along the border between Gaza and Israel have cooled significantly in recent weeks.
The money from Qatar helped pay the salaries of nearly 30,000 Gazan civil servants, giving the region a rare source of happiness, reported Qatar Tribune.
Thousands braved the winter cold to queue up to get their cash at post offices — one of which was decorated with a large mural of the HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the message “Thanks Qatar.”
“If the Qatari donation stops, we’ll be destroyed,” said 45-year-old civil servant Ammar Fayyad, the main bread-winner in his 13-strong family.
Palestinian sources said the second payout, thought to be around $15m, was part of a $90m Qatari donation that began in November and is due to be paid into Gaza over six months.
