This year, Qatar marks a unique Eid, in light of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. Although Eid Al-Fitr 2020 did not come with any public events and community gatherings, the country ensured the spirit of the celebration was kept alive, in different ways.

Through its initiative, 'Let's Celebrate Eid Together," Qatar's government reiterated the message of staying home during Eid for the welfare of the community at large.

Under this endeavor, as many as 50,000 food kits were distributed among individuals of several communities in Qatar.

The food kits were arranged by Qatar Charity (QC) and provided to community organizations that gave them out to deserving individuals in coordination with the respective embassies.

The project was carried out in collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Ministry of Interior (MOI), the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA), QC and Ooredoo and bolsters Qatar's relations with members of India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Gambia, Nigeria, Tunisia, Ghana, and Kenya.

Seeking to spread joy over the blessed occasion of Eid, the initiative saw the distribution of 50000 Eid greeting cards among the community members.

Additionally, 4,350 toys for children, 2,2,79 gifts, and 20,000 recharge cards from Ooredoo were given out to workers.

MOI and MADLSA took the opportunity to reinforce awareness messages against COVID-19. The kits included awareness brochures in 11 languages, particularly of Asian communities living in Qatar.

At least 25,000 Stay at Home stickers were also added to the kits.

A total of 40 organizations combined efforts with MOI and MADLSA to receive food kits and distribute them to needy persons.

Meanwhile, health authorities in Qatar continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.

For any queries, or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by the Ministry. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
