Qatar begins disbursing cash aid to needy families in Gaza

In another exemplary humanitarian effort amid the current novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Qatar has once again extended a helping hand to Palestinians in Gaza.
The Qatar Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza together with the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) initiated the process of disbursing cash assistance to needy families in the Gaza Strip.
According to the chairman of the committee, Ambassador Mohamed Al Emadi, an amount of $100 per family is being given out to as many as 100,000 families through the post offices in the governorates of the Gaza Strip.
The support comes under His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani's directives to send urgent financial assistance to Palestine, reflecting Qatar's commitment to supporting global efforts to combat the outbreak of the emerging COVID-19.
The aid package that Qatar has announced for Palestine is worth $150 million and will be distributed over the next six months.

The process of distributing cash assistance to families in Gaza is being implemented under a new mechanism with the support of the relevant government agencies to meet safety standards for beneficiaries and to preserve sufficient distances between them, said Ambassador Al Emadi, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The Ambassador also recognized the Palestinian citizens for their cooperation and adherence to the recommended safety measures outlined by the competent authorities to prevent the spread of the virus.
The aid disbursement will go on for the next two weeks, Ambassador Al Emadi said, adding that each beneficiary will be notified of the specific days to avoid crowding of people at the post offices.
The process is carried out under the full supervision of the Qatari Committee's teams, who are present at the centers round-the-clock, he specified.
Earlier, upon the directives of HH the Amir, Qatar has also sent over 13 tonnes of relief aid including medical equipment and supplies to Iran to help the country in its fight against the virus.
Qatar has also expressed its willingness to support Italy in its battle against COVID-19 that has severely affected the European country.
Meanwhile, relevant authorities in Qatar continue to implement the highest levels of safety measures in the interest of the public.
Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
