Ever since the illegal siege of Qatar began almost two years ago, Qatar has been taking steps to ensure self-reliance above all, in all fields.

Despite the arrival of food items from Saudi Arabia and the UAE stopping overnight, Qatar never faltered and devised different ways to overcome the situation. Even while opening new trade routes, it also started encouraging the production of food items at home.

And now, the country has achieved 100% self-sufficiency in the production of live poultry, meat and dairy products, according to Qatar’s Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie.

The top official said the country had also attained 24% self-sufficiency in vegetable production, and it is expected to reach 70% over the next five years, reported Gulf Times.

There are also comprehensive plans in place to determine the production ratio in each area within the next five years.

The country is keen to support food security projects with plans for both agricultural and animal production, he said.

He was speaking during the opening ceremony of an agricultural and livestock production project of Mazzraty — the National Group for Agricultural and Animal Products.

Al Subaie said similar projects have been lined up to be launched shortly, reported Qatar Tribune.

While many projects have already been implemented, more are in the works in the fields of fodder, poultry farming, milk production and fish, among others.

Al Subaie said the Mazzraty project was a model for investing in this vital and vital sector.

Meanwhile, the Minister said the number of participants at the seventh Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ), which will begin next Tuesday and coincide with the first environmental exhibition, has doubled.

AgriteQ is vital as a strategic platform to explore new horizons for upgrading the Qatari agricultural sector as a food security pillar.

The Qatar International Environmental Exhibition (EnviroteQ) will be a useful platform for introducing innovative environmental solutions to meet current and emerging challenges and an opportunity to share international experiences.

Our locally produced vegetable is very cheap if you go to Vegitable market(Abu Hamur- wholesale market). But the Mall are selling very costly. Brocaly arounnd 4 kg is available for 15 Qar. You can see the price difference. Government should check the Price betwen wholsale and retail.

Our locally produced vegetable is expensive, so to make healthy competition, Qatar govt. must be added some extra taxes on imported vegetable. So that our vegetable will be high in demand & this will put pressure on producer to produce more & earn more.
