Prominent car dealer forced to refund QR200,000 to customer
Have you ever felt that after-sales service of cars in Qatar is often not up to the mark? How many times have you torn out your hair in frustration at the slow progress of car complaint rectification?
If the answers are yes and many times, then this news will definitely cheer you up.
According to The Peninsula, The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has forced a prominent car dealer to take back a defective vehicle and refund the customer over QR200,000.
Though the ministry did not mention the name of the dealer or model of the car, the refund amount was decided after taking into account depreciation of the vehicle which had been used for a year.
The Ministry took action following a complaint filed by the vehicle’s owner through one of its communication channels regarding manufacturing defects.
The Ministry deputed its inspectors to investigate the complaint before notifying the car dealer of the need to take the faulty car back and pay the customer QR200,000 as per article 10 of law No. 8 of 2008 on Consumer Protection.
The law stipulates that consumers are entitled to choose whether to get repaired, exchange, or return a defective product and ask for a refund. The measure was part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to protect consumers and ensure that car dealers follow up on vehicles’ defects and repairs.
The Ministry has further urged people to report violations through the following.
Call Center: 16001; Email: [email protected]; Twitter: @MEC_Qatar; Instagram: MEC_Qatar; Ministry of Economy and Commerce mobile app for Android and IOS: MEC_Qatar.

Zack, I live a simple life, a humble being ...... in the return I get fair deal where ever I go ......... what I do is just give a 'smile' & get so much in benefits ......... I am not of the kind who want to buy everything with the { locally earned } Rials ..... !
MM...you say feelings for others...really! what I noticed is that when you open up to sales people or anyone trying to sell you something, even providing their services, they just want to rip you off here and give you BS after sale service...that the croxx of the reality here MM. Everyone is having issues...maybe you are scared to face the reality...or are you a child that can't see the difference between what is really going on,,,or living in a imaginary world?! Let me know if I am saying the truth of whats really happening here.
Zack, We must not forget that we are here for what ........ if we get up everyday & head to our place of work , do our part with honesty & I am to come back home not tired but with a warm smile ..... plus we try to have a feeling for others ..... then nobody will ever have any issue in their lives .......
On the one hand you are saying that mistakes happen and on the other that there are scam artists around .. make your mind up
MM, obviously you never had any bad experience with the car dealers, you must be loving it, no matter what they throw at you, you seem to have a big grind in your face and move on daily with out being phased from all the stupidity that goes on here. I am flabbergasted!
There will be always a few people who take the advantage than being fair ......... this situation may come to anybody be it dealer or the customer ..........
Mistakes do happen ............. all is well that ends well .........
Yes name and shame, so that they can do better customer service going forward. They need to rebuild their reputation in the market through name and shaming. If they are confident to come out from their previous wrong doing and they stand by their branding and commitment towards better customer services. They should be able to come out of this. But instead they are sheltered and hidden, for they cowardly actions. How will they be able to building a strong brand image, under such disguise. Shame! Shame!
Well done to the authorities... I do agree with WT.. In such instances, the culprits should be named so that the public is aware. Also, it will ensue that they take greater care the next time..
I want to know the name of the "Dealer" so I can avoid getting cheated by him in the future.
A "prominent" car dealer doesn't care for 200,000 Riyals. It's pocket money for him.
WT: Unfortunately, you look at at everything in the Arab and Muslim world from a negative point of view. What makes you so sure the culprit would repeat the offence? Would you repeat the offence if you were in his place after suffering a loss of QR 200,000? What benefit you would get by knowing the name of the offender? The name was possibly withheld so as not to damage the business setup of the company. The forced return of the money was taken as a step to stop him from repeating the act. Great job Ministry of Economy!
And since the name of the culprit is not mentioned he can do it again and again and again. You are doing a miserable job, Ministry of Economy!
Great move, some justice done!
